COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A collaboration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Co and the monks at the Abbey of New Clairvaux, Ovila Abbey Saison brings the centuries-old monastery brewing tradition to America. Ovila Abbey Saison is complex and contemplative-but also refreshingly dry and drinkable. With earthy and spicy aromas, this rustic Saison has note of green grass and a faint citrus tang. The body is light and layered with fruit and spice accents and a dry, peppery finish. A portion of the proceedsfrom this ale go toward the restoration of the historic Santa Maria de Oliva chapter house on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux. This medieval building stood for nearly eight centuries in Spain. William Randolph Hearst purchased the monastery in 1931 and planned to use the stones for a castle even grander than his famous San Simeon. Although Hearst’s plan crumbled, these historic stones will rise again in a California Cistercian abbey.

Small corked bottle from Total Wine Vegas. Nice and true to category saison. Has a nice little spice kick to it. Pretty traditional. Enjoyable.

Bottle. Orange appearance, orange peel and toast aroma, the palate experience is totally different with aromas of butter popcorn and pepper for the finish. It is smooth and a little creamy but the pepper finish is soft and lingers for awhile. This beer is a little weird and kinda throws you cause the nasal aroma is so different but I enjoyed it overall.

Draft at BXL East. Pours hazy orange amber with a big, foamy, slighlty off white head. Good lacing. Aroma is strong of oranges, other citrus fruits with some notes of pineapple. Taste is peppery and spicy (coriander) with notes of yeast, citrus pith and grass and a bit of sweet caramel malts in the finish. Pretty drinkable.

Great pop when pulling the cork. Hazy golden color, with tight two finger white head. Decent carbonation, but not as much as some Saisons. The aroma shines, honey, pear, apple, green grape, a little yeast, a little hay, not much spice. Taste is delicate, on the sweet side, very little spice or hop presence detected. Goes down easy, don’t taste any alcohol. A good, but not great Saison, not big enough flavor, wanted more spice and funky yeast, but still a decent beer overall.

On draft at the Blue Monkey Tavern. Notes of honet, whear, eaarth and spice. A pinch of pepper in the finish. I enjoyed it.
