COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A collaboration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Co and the monks at the Abbey of New Clairvaux, Ovila Abbey Saison brings the centuries-old monastery brewing tradition to America. Ovila Abbey Saison is complex and contemplative-but also refreshingly dry and drinkable. With earthy and spicy aromas, this rustic Saison has note of green grass and a faint citrus tang. The body is light and layered with fruit and spice accents and a dry, peppery finish. A portion of the proceedsfrom this ale go toward the restoration of the historic Santa Maria de Oliva chapter house on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux. This medieval building stood for nearly eight centuries in Spain. William Randolph Hearst purchased the monastery in 1931 and planned to use the stones for a castle even grander than his famous San Simeon. Although Hearst’s plan crumbled, these historic stones will rise again in a California Cistercian abbey.

750mL bottle. The aroma on this beer has a little floral hoppiness to it, and a light honey character. There is a faint amount of yeast esters, but this is pretty much in the background, which I prefer. Just a nice, light fruitiness. Mildly hazy golden-orange body, with a nice, fizzy, soft whitish head. Strong retention and creamy lacing present. Starts with a sharp carbonation, before this becomes a little metallic. The dusty, barnyardy yeast esters come through in the middle. This finishes rather dry, and has some pimento-olive light flavor. A lot too dry for me, and a bit too carbonated. A little on the bitter side, too.

Clear golden color, large head, good lace/retention. Aroma is herbal with sage as well as pepper and Belgian yeast. Medium to light body, alcohol hidden well - big sage flavor dominates.

750 ml bottle from notes. Pours a hazy orange golden color with a large off white head. The aroma and flavor have orange citrus, mild funk, caramel, bready malts, earthy, some spicy character, leans toward pepper, dry, drinkable, decent.

Pour a hazy golden amber with a white head. Floral and estery aroma. Medium bodied with an earthy moutfeel. Flavor of pilsner malt, citrus, and a hint of white pepper. Refreshing, but not as attenuated as I prefer with my Saison. Solid,

On tap at the Creekside Tavern, this pours orange–amber into the glass with a wispy head that leaves light soap ring lacing. Aromas bring forth a comforting nod to my grandmother's home... candied oranges and mixed spices. Favors of orange, melon, grassiness, and spices, finishing with a nice spicy wallop of herbs and a hint of salt. Very complex mouthfeel with a medium-full body and somewhat semi-dry palate. Nice saison here. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
