COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A collaboration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Co and the monks at the Abbey of New Clairvaux, Ovila Abbey Saison brings the centuries-old monastery brewing tradition to America. Ovila Abbey Saison is complex and contemplative-but also refreshingly dry and drinkable. With earthy and spicy aromas, this rustic Saison has note of green grass and a faint citrus tang. The body is light and layered with fruit and spice accents and a dry, peppery finish. A portion of the proceedsfrom this ale go toward the restoration of the historic Santa Maria de Oliva chapter house on the grounds of the Abbey of New Clairvaux. This medieval building stood for nearly eight centuries in Spain. William Randolph Hearst purchased the monastery in 1931 and planned to use the stones for a castle even grander than his famous San Simeon. Although Hearst’s plan crumbled, these historic stones will rise again in a California Cistercian abbey.

pours a golden yellow with a slight haze...fluffy white head. No doubt there’s some wheat in here, judging by the head and the aroma of banana and bubblegum. Flavor is nicely balanced. Decently strong, with a nice sweetness from the bubblegum and bubblegum and yeasty characteristics. Very good.

A little to light for my liking when it comes to a saison. Still well done with a nice tangy citrus flavor.

750 mL bottle. Pours orange, with a big, pillowy, off-white head. Apricots and apples up front, with some notes of herbs, biscuits, and black pepper. The flavor is very sweet and citrusy, with a very faint sourness in the finish. Light to medium body, dry, and lightly astringent. Overall, this is a good, refreshing, and tasty saison. It lacks some of the complexity I’ve come to expect, but still, not bad.

Pours a clear yellow with a modest white head. Aroma has some light funky notes, some apple sweetness and a light spicy finish. Flavor has a semi-sweet apple flavor, light spicy and some light horse blanket and grassy notes at the finish. Palate is light with lots of carbonation some light dryness at the finish. Overall a good brew. Funky notes are faint and the sweetness is a tad bit on the high side.

Normally I love Belgian style beers, Ommegang's are my favorite domestic micro Belgians, so I decided to try Sierra Nevada's line. I wasn't overly crazy about this one. It's typical of Belgian, fruity, cloudy, peppery, tart and bittersweet. There wasn't anything outstanding out it, it's typical. I won't be trying it again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a hazy light orange with a beige head with good retention but no lacing. Aroma is yeasty and sweet with honey, apple and some funk. Tastes sweet with mild bitterness. Flavor is apple and pear, yeast, and bit of citrus and some clove spice at the end. Body is medium and finishes dry. A solid beer that is little sweet initially but dries out enough.

Poured from bottle a hazy orange with a white head. Smells of grass, biscuit, slight tart and white pepper. Tastes of biscuit, grass, and watery orange. Everything seemed watered down in this one. Palate was also thin.

750mL bottle. The aroma on this beer has a little floral hoppiness to it, and a light honey character. There is a faint amount of yeast esters, but this is pretty much in the background, which I prefer. Just a nice, light fruitiness. Mildly hazy golden-orange body, with a nice, fizzy, soft whitish head. Strong retention and creamy lacing present. Starts with a sharp carbonation, before this becomes a little metallic. The dusty, barnyardy yeast esters come through in the middle. This finishes rather dry, and has some pimento-olive light flavor. A lot too dry for me, and a bit too carbonated. A little on the bitter side, too.

Pours hazy bright orange. Medium white head. I love the color. Smell is orange and grapefruit. Taste is light, citrus, mild yeasty flavors. Finishes slightly sour. Seems like it is a little mild, missing something. Not quite as pronounced as the color and palate would indicate. Nice but not necessarily noteworthy.

Solid saison. On the lighter side, and would prefer the flavors to be more bold, but it is complex, and I'm picking up fruit and pepper. The flavor develops more as it rests. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Corked and caged bomber----> tulip. Pours a cloudy orange gold with a one finger fluffy white head that leaves some pretty sticky lacing. Aroma is store bought apple juice and yeast. Taste is very mildly funky yeast, bread, and sweet grain. Light, slightly fizzy palate. Fairly decent saison, but nothing special.
