4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
I remember the first time I tried a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. It was (at that time) the most different beer I’d ever had. It was the early 1990’s and I had just moved from Michigan, where I’d been exposed to mass-produced tasteless beers all my life. I’d fallen in love with Samuel Adams lager, which was quite hard to find due to the relative lack of distribution.
The aroma from the spicy hops hits your nose as you pour it from the bottle. The beer comes out with an amber-orange color with a perfect amount of foam and fantastic lacing in the glass. The bitterness is not overpowering, but adds just enough to counterbalance the smooth caramel maltiness.
The mouthfeel is wonderful, and although not thin, it doesn’t come across as a heavy beer. The perfect carbonation combined with the wonderful taste gives this a drinkability like few other beers, and this is my everyday go-to beer (and has been for almost two decades now).
This is Sierra Nevada’s flagship beer for a reason. It can be a session beer or an accompaniment to a gourmet meal (or pizza or burgers).

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a regular favorite. Nice aromatics rising from an amber pour with a thick head topping. Taste is well-balanced with a few floral notes to delight the tongue. Finish is clean and only mildly bitter. SN Pale is a nice brew to have around for any occasion or a find meal.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
355ml bottle from BWS. Pour is deep amber with an ample short lasting white head and decent lace. Aromas are hoppy (tropical fruits with pineapple to the fore, citrus) with caramel malts and honey in there as well. Palate is delicious and refreshing with good balance of sweet malts and sturdy fruity hop bitterness at the back. Medium bodied and easy to drink for a few more.
Justifiably considered an American classic.

Large bottle from local market. Slightly cloudy dark golden color with a long lasting white head. Nice aromas of citrus fruits and yellow flowers. Flavors are similar to aromas and are well presented in nice structure. Sweet malty finish with a long after taste which is very pleasant.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle purchased from Tesco’s. Amber/copper, slightly hazy with clumpy white head. Big hops dominate the nose with apricots and pine resin, but there are other notes of caramel, bread and butterscotch. Taste is a fruity bittersweet with a nicely balanced bitter finish. This is a wonderfully understated beer, it all fits together so well. A modern classic.
