Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a delightful example of the classic pale ale style. It has a deep amber color and a exceptionally full-bodied, complex character. The fragrant bouquet and spicy flavor are the results of the generous use of the best Cascade hops.<P> Bottle Conditioned.

I have intentionally not rated this beer before. This will be my 100th rating and I figured I would use the opportunity to comment on what I feel is a grave injustice. So often these days you hear people disparage SNPA as being boring or not as big as it used to be. I think the problem lies not in this great beer, but in the "Imperialization" of craft brewing. Everything has to be bigger, hoppier, smoked or oaked or many turn their nose up at it. The mentality seems to be if it doesn’t go to eleven it isn’t worth drinking. While this bigger is better philosophy has produced some truly great beers it has also caused some great beers, like this one, to get marginalized. As I am typing this I look below at the top ratings for American Pale Ales and see a list of beers that are really examples of IPAs. How can SNPA not be among the top APAs? It invented the style for crying out loud! OK, rant over, SNPA really is a great beer from the mouthwatering citrus aroma, to the decidedly hoppy, but beautifully balanced flavor, it is a true classic. Could it have more of everything? Of course it could, but then it wouldn’t be an APA

Pours amber w/ a decent white head that leaves good lacing. The aroma is a subtle balance between malt & hop. The taste is quite bitter throughout but still pretty smooth & finishes rather clean. This is a solid beer but probably not as good as the ratings suggest!

bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear medium amber, beige rim head, stripes of lace. Aroma of malt and citrus. Taste is malt that adds citrus hops and carbonation on the swallow, the result being a sense of overwhelming the mouth for a second, dissipating and revealing citrus and malt in a silid finish. An honest brew, true to the style and satisfying.

Bottle into IPA glass. Pours a clear golden colour. Aroma is of light grapefruit. Taste is mild citrus and a little toastyness. This is exactly what a pale ale should be like. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10

Looks exquisite when poured. Lovely foamy head which lasts a good while and slides slowly down the glass with lacing. Nothing too distinctive about the nose. The taste is simply very refreshing. Nice bitter balance with a good fruity malt. I’d say apply but mellow, not sweet. It’s got depth around the mulled cider area and the mouthfeel is Devine. No thin watery ness but lovely water treatment warming slightly raspy bitterness. Oh this is good.

This is the plae ale Standard. Crisp, flavorful. Plenty of hops, plenty of malt. Classic example and delicious.

Classic beer. One that always goes down smooth. Darker amber color and well bodied to the fullest. Interesting aroma.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, bottled on 9/10/2014. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, grapefruit, caramel, bread, light honey, floral, grass, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, grapefruit, caramel, bread, light honey, floral, grass, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, orange peel, grapefruit, caramel, bread, light honey, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance, robustness, and complexity of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and fairly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent pale ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

About an inch head. Faint hop aroma. A little bitter in your mouth. Going down it almost tastes like a lager. Ok beer.
