Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a delightful example of the classic pale ale style. It has a deep amber color and a exceptionally full-bodied, complex character. The fragrant bouquet and spicy flavor are the results of the generous use of the best Cascade hops.<P> Bottle Conditioned.

I have intentionally not rated this beer before. This will be my 100th rating and I figured I would use the opportunity to comment on what I feel is a grave injustice. So often these days you hear people disparage SNPA as being boring or not as big as it used to be. I think the problem lies not in this great beer, but in the "Imperialization" of craft brewing. Everything has to be bigger, hoppier, smoked or oaked or many turn their nose up at it. The mentality seems to be if it doesn’t go to eleven it isn’t worth drinking. While this bigger is better philosophy has produced some truly great beers it has also caused some great beers, like this one, to get marginalized. As I am typing this I look below at the top ratings for American Pale Ales and see a list of beers that are really examples of IPAs. How can SNPA not be among the top APAs? It invented the style for crying out loud! OK, rant over, SNPA really is a great beer from the mouthwatering citrus aroma, to the decidedly hoppy, but beautifully balanced flavor, it is a true classic. Could it have more of everything? Of course it could, but then it wouldn’t be an APA

Good staple beer, a good pine taste to it, and addition it has a slight citrus flavor as well. Not my favorite from Sierra Nevada but a good one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden colour, not too pale, slightly hazy. Very sparse head, little retention. Not too intense hoppy aroma with a touch of honey. Balanced hops in the taste, which kick-in all the way to the back of the mouth and stay there. Strong carbonation with little bubbles.

355ml bottle. Clear amber with small aerated white head. Not a strong aroma but has some honey, pine and fresh bread. Honey, pine and bread in the taste as well, with some accompanying light lemon zest as well. Dry and bitter finish. Not bad but I would love to try this fresh in the US as I think it may have suffered during the shipping to Australia.

Classic staple of north America, before the IPA takeover, there was the APA. Pours amber, smells piney and floral. Taste is bitter and mild sweet. Moderate body, dry finish.

UPDATED AND SAMPLED ON 06/30/09:- Haven’t had this in about a year or more, and was on sale at Publix for $6.99. Wanted to drink and review this in the privacy of my own home since I don’t think I ever really bought a 6’er of this. Usually only had it out at a bar, club, or festival. Basically, was as I remembered....pretty much an average beer. It has good flavor at the start, mostly hoppy but seems a little watery or just a little off-balanced towards the hops. The aftertaste is both bitter from the hops, but also has a "mass-produced swillish taste"....kind of hard to explain. Had to downgrade this a couple points from my original review. Trying to buy some "economy beer" every now and then, but wishing I spent an extra 2-3 bucks for something I enjoy more. .................................................. may be one of the most widely distributed micros out there. If at a bar, club, restaurant, etc. and given a choice between typical domestic, corona, heinekin, and Sierra Nevada....I’ll get the Sierra Nevada almolst every time! This is actually a little bitter for an american pale ale, something near a IPA, but if you try Sierra’s IPA not as bitter as that. Has a golden color, decent amount of carb and head. A bit on the heavier side and leaves a slight metallic aftertaste, but a good overall beer.
