Nice dark porter with no head. Caramel chocolate smell. A little smokey. Good. Not too much hops which is what I was expecting from this beer. Light aftertaste. Lots of carbonation.

A little to heavy and chalky but actually pretty good. It is not a "classic" by any means but it has the coffe taste that porters should have. I like it and wascertainly pleased except of the slight thickness and aftertaste.

Wow. Much better than I expected from Sierra. This porter has good head but no lacing. The aroma is pretty weak. Very dark brown. Lots of hops and chocolate with a burnt taste. Great porter.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2003 head disapated quickly. I didn't get any sense of "creaminness" the descripion suggests. Burnt , roastiness, pretty hoppy. Not bad at all but lacks in Palate.

Not a bad porter. What i expected from SN. not something astounding but nicely brewed and very drinkable. Flavors of chocolate, kind of smokey, and malts.

Poured this porter into my new Tripel Karmeliet glass, which will hold about 20oz, and this beast mounted a tower of caramel colored head.
The aroma is nice and roasty, dark chocolate malts, a bit like burnt toast, some hoppyness, pungent and floral, prunes, some pine wood likeness. The flavor is a bit fizzy, Coke like, I am picking up more hops than malt, what else is new with Sierra Nevada’s beers.
Good stuff, I would never deny this beer if offered but it’s not my ideal Porter, hops are just too pronounced. Thin palate as well.

Fantastic porter. Aroma is roasty, with some bitter chocolate. Pours black with a vigorous tan head, some lacing on the glass as the head dissapates. Nicely hopped finish.

Aroma: Smells of bitter-sweet chocolate with a bit a roasted malt. Appearance: Nearly black with tan head Taste: Mouthfeel is a little thin and watery. A strong roasted malt flavor with a little chocolate taste, aftertaste - dry but sweet maltiness.

Dark brown in colour with ruby highlights and a thick tan head comprised of small bubbles. Nice aroma of roasted malt, raisins and chocolate. Full-bodied; Strong maltiness with adequate complexity and some sweetness. Some hops are detectable very early in the aftertaste, but none of the other characteristics. Overall, a decent beer, not great for the style, but not bad either. I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia and sampled it on 29-September-2003.
