Dark brown in colour with ruby highlights and a thick tan head comprised of small bubbles. Nice aroma of roasted malt, raisins and chocolate. Full-bodied; Strong maltiness with adequate complexity and some sweetness. Some hops are detectable very early in the aftertaste, but none of the other characteristics. Overall, a decent beer, not great for the style, but not bad either. I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia and sampled it on 29-September-2003.

Bottled. Jet black, thin beige head and moderate condition. Aromas of coffee, chocolate and tobacco smoke. Earthy and fruity in the mouth with hints of berries and chocolate but all quite thin and metallic. Dry earthy finish with some mushroom and bitter coffee notes.

Chocolaty malt aroma. Big creamy head on a ruby, brown body. Malty, with a slight roastedness, some chocolate. Good balance. This is a very solid porter.

Opaque brown color, nice roasted malt aroma with hint of chocolate. Taste is bitter, but not overly so, and very rich. Smoky aftertaste, as some have previously noted. Very good porter ... very good beer.

Brown hue with reddish crown and base. Huge off-white head and excellent lacing. Nice aroma of bittersweet chocolate, caramel, and expresso. Hints of smoky malts, ripe berries, anise, and kiln wood. Taste starts bitter and potent with a dry/woody undertone. Midway the palate receives a splash of roasted malt and the finish is a beautiful smoky twang which lingers on forever. The full-bodied beer has a soft and oily mouthfeel. One of the first Porters I ever tried and still among the best. Having it on tap again was a real treat, thanks boss for sending me to California.

This was $2.50 at the local Flying Saucer. It has the rich, roasted taste I look for in porters. I'll definately buy this one again.

Beer pours (in Chimay glass) a dark, dark brown that light can barely penetrate with a small amount of off-white head that dissipates to near nothing. Aroma is of pine needles, hops, and maybe molasses. Flavor is of a painfully hideous hop, pine needles. Nice try, but SNP fails. Sampled at 74 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pours a nice dark brown, close to black, with very little head. Caramel aroma, some malt. Nice roasted malt flavors, with a slightly bitter finish. A pleasing porter.
