Bottle poured a clear translucent brown hue w/ an off-white frothy head slowly diminishing to a nice cap and good lacing. Faint aroma of roasted malts. Initial flavor is light acidic w/ a light roast in the finish. Taste is a pleasant malt and a medium roast and an unsweet caramel. Light to medium bodied, watery texture, soft carbonation, and metallic feel.

Color caoba oscuro. Espuma beige clara no muy abundante, pero persistente. Aromas de chocolate y malta torrefacta. En boca es ligera y con un final amargo equilibrado que trae al paladar notas de chocolate y café. Buena porter.

12 oz bottle from Wilbur’s. Dark brown appearance with a nice and lasting tan head. The aroma is malty; caramel, chocolate, light coffee and a light roast. Similar flavor with a touch of vanilla. Malty, sweet and lightly bitter. Medium body with a smooth creamy feel. Nice rich flavor, pretty easy to drink. A solid porter.

Bottle at the parentals. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a slight red hue, tan head and great lacing. Roasty, light vanilla, marshmallows, somewhat earthy, grassy, light chocolate, and graham crackers in the aroma. Taste is dark chocolate, big roast, grassy/earthy hops, toasted bread, ligh my vanilla, espresso, and, bread with a light bitter/roasted finish. Light mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Nice sessionable stout, but could really benefit for some added body.

A - A semi-dark brown with bright chestnut edges. A 1 finger white head sink into a small formed collar and tight ceiling. S - Musty old grain that has heavy oxidation mold, hints of dry cocoa powder, burnt rubber. A dry shake dust hops creates a mineral bitterness. T - Same as the nose, burnt grain, black rubber material, hints of caramel and cocoa the tip of the tongue. M - Thin, high carbonation. I’m a huge fan of Serra Nevada but this porter is not good. I had it a few years ago and didn’t like it and I still don’t like it. Serving type: bottle 02-26-2011

Bottle. Aromas of the chocolate malt dominate although the earthy floral notes of the Willamette hops are definitely there. Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights and a thin tan head. The body is medium and the taste is smooth. This is a nice sessionable porter.

Bottle split at JF’s, 20/04/13, from BOE. Very dark mahogony brown with a good sized beige head that thins to a film. Nose combines a big dose of roast malt with chocolate and molasses. Taste comprises roast malt, chocolate, hoppy backbone, molasses, dark toffee fudge. Medium bodied with fine carbonation, roasty bitterness in the finish. A well constructed porter showing that a porter/stout doesn’t need to be 10% to be a ’goodun’ !

Not quite dark enough, not quite thick enough, not quite rich enough, head is not quite tight enough..... Smell of sweet black coffee that you found in the bathroom from the day before. The despairing papery whiff of an empty ’80% cocoa’ chocolate bar wrapper....first sip is thin, bitter, tinny chocolate. Then.... Kablammo! It all changes. The bubbles in the head drop. It starts to clot and thicken and deepen and ripen and now I feel guilty for judging it before I’d tried it. A pleasant, toasty, roasty, chocolatey tipple. Hoorah!

A dark brown body with a red tint, it’s hard to say for sure but I do believe the liquid in my glass is pretty clear. The head is creamy, light-brown and stays rather big before settling as a fully lasting layer that laces the glass well. The aroma is strong, thick and sweet and full of delicious notes of chocolate. It’s lightly roasted and I also get dark caramel with hints of gentle leather in the back. The taste is light to moderate sweet with a very nice moderate bitter long-lasting roasted finish. Strong thick lovely chocolate flavours combined with firm bitterness make this an incredibly balanced and pleasant beer. I also get traces of coffee and a fruity touch. It feels a bit thin and uninspired at first, but it grows flavour-wise mid-palate (and then this marvellous finish). The texture is pretty dry and the carbonation is moderate. A lovely porter!
[35.5 cl bottle, from Vinmonopolet Ullevål, Oslo]
