Ethereal (927), London, Greater London, England Jul 9, 2008 Cask at the White Horse, Parsons Green, 4th July 2008. Rich russet colour with a strongly alcoholic aroma and a decent weight in the mouth. Good flavours of smoky, chocolatey malts. Nice enough.
marksahara (79), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 11, 2008 12 oz bottle at Taco Mac Perimeter. Pours a deep opaque black with sufficient (1 finger) off-white crown that has decent retention and little lacing. Aroma is full of roasted malt, toffee, some coffee, earth, chocolate, a hint of biscuit, and the ever so slightest hint of grassy hops. Flavour is full of roasted malt, some chocolate ad coffee, and well balanced with some detectable hop character, but lacked depth to me. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied but rather thin for what I would expect out of a porter. Overall this was a great well-balanced beer and something that was extremely easy to drink (which is a rarity for porters) but it did let me down just a little bit since I’m used to such stellar beers out of Sierra Nevada. Maybe trying it on draught will change my mind (or out of a fresh bottle). GJF (243), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Oct 7, 2008 A classic porter. Black with a big rocky white head like an ice cream sundae. Nice roasted aroma. The flavor is caramel, roasted malt and that sierra tang, with a clean, dry finish. A little light on body for this much flavor, but I dig it. jtruty (1), Austin, Texas, USA does not count Oct 5, 2008 Very dark brown, wonderful thick head. Malty, roasted, bitter coffee/chocolate taste. Slightly dry/thin feel. Delicious porter. bretupdegraff (101), Fishers, Indiana, USA Sep 22, 2008 Dark brown -nice roasty flavor sweet and malty. kinda thin mouthfeel.
