spikester (435), Salem, Oregon, USA Jan 29, 2008 Poured dark brown from the 12 ounce botte. Modest tan head some lacings. A fine porter from one of my favorite craft brewers. I think Black Butte Porter from Deschutes is my benchmark but I think this is better balanced than B.B. Nice chocolate / coffee sweet malt with just the right amount of hops to make this a nice almost chewy brew.
Highly recommended for fans of this style.
GJF (240), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Oct 7, 2008 A classic porter. Black with a big rocky white head like an ice cream sundae. Nice roasted aroma. The flavor is caramel, roasted malt and that sierra tang, with a clean, dry finish. A little light on body for this much flavor, but I dig it. jtruty (1), Austin, Texas, USA does not count Oct 5, 2008 Very dark brown, wonderful thick head. Malty, roasted, bitter coffee/chocolate taste. Slightly dry/thin feel.
