COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rain Check Spiced Stout is our answer to the merciless wet weather that plagued and slowed the construction of our new brewery in Mills River, NC. This dark, rich, and roasty beer helps us forget the delays - a Rain Check we’ll take anytime. Rain Check is a rich, toasty stout with flavors of burnt sugar and dark roasted malt spiked with ginger and lime to celebrate the end of dark and rainy days.

Medium bodied Imp stout that’s roasty and slightly sweet. Easy to 9rink at 9%. I don’t get any of the ginger or lime notes, but solid brew overall.

Bottle. Black pour with a short tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, burnt caramel and ginger. Taste is a bit sweeter than the aroma lets on with ginger, burnt caramel, roasted malt, brown sugar, lime and soft coffee notes. Body is medium with a moderate, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more lime, chocolate, roasted malt, burnt caramel, ginger and light coffee notes. Not a bad beer but just not really my favorite.

Bottle thanks to hot pat. Deep mahogany with a tan head. Ginger and lime aromas. Similar flavors. As billed. Good stuff.

Tangy dark malt and spice aroma that smells like some of my ambitious homebrew projects that went awry. Squat 12 oz bottle, OK label. Unpleasant spice bitterness. Tangy, lightly astringent, moderately sweet. Allspice or mace cling to my tongue. Good ingredients, to be sure, but not enjoyable. ABC Liquors, Betton.

Pretty dark black, close to opaque with a thin head. Nose is...well I’m not sure. Alternatively it is roasty with an indistinct spiciness, and then it’s an acidic reminder of a vomiting episode I had a month ago (that’s a nice why of saying it smelled like my puke did). A tentative sip somewhat went in that same direction. Again it is alternately a sweet stout, mildly roasty, a touch acidic, with a mild ginger spicing, but then it becomes acrid, sour, stomach juice tasting. I’m probably the only one getting this, mainly because of just an unfortunate coincidence. Not affecting my numbers though, just weird. Still on the whole, a ginger/lime sweet stout? Not my thing. But its generally a well designed stout otherwise, I’d like to see SN take a stab at something like a foreign export stout.

Bottle from a 4 pack. First beer entirely from the Mills River location. Pours a thick dark brown almost black. You get the smell of lime, ginger, and some sweet malt. The taste is definitely more caramel and honey with a some lime and ginger. Not as roasty as expected. Medium body with little carbonation and some creaminess. Thin for an almost Imperial Stout. Easy to drink and the ABV sneaks up on you. Good effort, but wish it had a more viscous body.

Black, not much head. Burnt sugar nose. Burnt sugar, licorice sweetness, a bit of bitterness mixes in. Excellent balance between creamy and bitter.

Black with a tall, dense, tan head. Roasty, nutty aroma. Ligjhtly sweet flavor, lots of roast malt flavors with a spicy finish.

I believe I had this on tap at Kickbacks, summer 2014, perhaps late summer. Black pour with a nice tan head, good lacing. Mild aroma, some ash, roast, chocolate, coffee, a bit of spice, ginger present. Okay flavor, mostly stouty, roasty, coffee, a bit of chocolate, spice comes through, sweet ginger flavor. Not bad.

12 ounce bottle from Plaza Package. Pours a hazy very dark brown with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, citrus, ginger. The taste is chocolate, ginger, roast, spice, dark fruits, hints of soy. Medium bdodied, mild lingering spice.

No aroma. Pours a dark chocolate. Tastes of chocolate and roasted coffee. Light bitter finish.
