Rain Check Spiced Stout is our answer to the merciless wet weather that plagued and slowed the construction of our new brewery in Mills River, NC. This dark, rich, and roasty beer helps us forget the delays - a Rain Check weíll take anytime. Rain Check is a rich, toasty stout with flavors of burnt sugar and dark roasted malt spiked with ginger and lime to celebrate the end of dark and rainy days.

Bottle. Packaged on: 03/04/15. A deep mahogany pour with a smallish mocha head. The aroma features an odd mix of chocolate, tangy limes, ginger, caramel, burnt grains, roasted coffee, molasses, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Lots of gross gingersnap cookies in the mix... Medium-bodied on the way down. The taste starts with plenty of caramel and molasses. Brown sugar and burnt grains in the middle. A little coffee and some dark chocolate finish things off with a bitterness that lingers. Tangy limes, salty soy sauce, and some warming alcohol throughout. Boozy. A disgusting aftertaste of Sprite and gingersnaps. Bleh!

on tap at Sierra Tap House, Reno, earlier this year. Interesting blend of spices and roasted malt. Really nice addition to the winter seasonals if they go that route. Smooth and tasty, with the ginger and roast being the key players.

Pours deep, warm sable with a thick and rather persistent tan head. Aroma presents roast malt, smoky, caramel, and subtle earthy notes. Snips of lime and ginger come forth in the smoky, toasty flavor that features notes of caramel, molasses, and slightly charred hops. Mouthfeel has firm body and plenty of fizz, while finish has nice roast malt and spicy tones.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. A black colored brew with a tan head. The aroma is full of cocoa, coffee bean and chocolate. The taste packs a big malt wallop that also follows the aroma. Overall, this is an excellent beer with a full bodied flavor that has a creamy texture.

An overall well-balanced and tasty IPS, but wouldnít put in the top tier or anything. Super dark and roasty with some burnt/bitter malts. Semi-thick texture. Sort of a cheaper/poor-manís version of their 30th Anniversary , Narwhal, and other Imperial Stoutís that theyíve released over the years. Solid brew .....but sort of forgettable.

Bottle from State Line. Dark pour with smallish head. Aroma of vanilla and chocolate. Sweet stout with chocolate, brown sugar and vanilla. Notable ginger presence, which I wasnít fond of. Just too sweet. Almost no roasted ness at all. Just okay.

Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of dark bread and toasted, light herbs for the hops light to moderate earth for the yeast, with background notes of ginger snaps and a hint of lime which I had to look for. Head is small, fizzy/frothy, brown, with fair lacing and good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, between creamy and syrupy and has a soft carbonation Nice unique aromas from the adjuncts, but even at itís foundation itís still a solid Imperial Stout.

A very, very strange beer that I donít like much. It doesnít taste bad, per se, but itís very weirdly spiced b/c of the ginger and the molasses maltiness. I could not drink more than a few ounces.

Bottle. Pours black. Aroma and taste are roasted malts, ginger, and a lime presence in the finish.
