Rain Check Spiced Stout is our answer to the merciless wet weather that plagued and slowed the construction of our new brewery in Mills River, NC. This dark, rich, and roasty beer helps us forget the delays - a Rain Check weíll take anytime. Rain Check is a rich, toasty stout with flavors of burnt sugar and dark roasted malt spiked with ginger and lime to celebrate the end of dark and rainy days.

Bottle from Village Wine and Spirits. Rich roast malt nose, with light chocolate, dark sugars, some citrus zest, and spice. Dark brown color. Strong roast, sugar, bit of the citrus, very light ginger. Heavy body and very smooth. A bit oily and quite warming. Very nice. Moderate flavors (and unusual ones) for an imperial stout. Good stuff.

Bottle - Pours black with a thin bubbly tan head. Nose is ginger, mellow dark malt, a bit of dry roast and a bit of citrus. Taste is dry and lightly roasted dark malt, a hint of ginger, mellow herbal hopping, and a touch of lime on the finish. Thinnish, with soft carbonation. Not an everyday drinker, but interesting.

12 oz bottle packaged on 28 May 2014. Opaque, full body. Odd aroma ... oh, has ginger and lime. While the aroma is not completely reassuiring, itís more wierd than uninviting, and the flavor definitely works. It has good balance, with enough ginger to affect the feel as well as the taste, but the citrus and dark roasted malts come thru too.

Pours a very dark blackish color with almost no cappuccino head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, burnt cocoa, caramel, liquorice, then to lighter notes of lime and ginger with an undertone of tobacco. Taste is roasty vanilla, thin molasses, cinnamon, chocolate milk, caramel, then a sweet bread pudding w/raisins of sorts and finishes with a spicy peppery note with more cinnamon. The ginger and lime start to come out as it warms more and you are about half way through. Overall a crazy beer, good, and very different from most things this time of year.

Flavor has some bitter black coffee,a bit of licorice, some roasted notes, a touch of vanilla and marshmallow and some green earthy notes in the back end. Thick, sticky mouthfeel. Solid, as expected from SN.

Bottle scored by Eric and shared by Ken at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown with orange glints and a tan head. Aroma suggests something like old time linoleum adhesive (not necessarily a bad thing). Med + body. Flavor starts linoleum adhesive, quickly moves to treacle, black malt, ginger/spice and maybe dark fruit. Lotís going on here.

given the spices and so forth, its almost more of a christmas beer. must be the ginger. or that it sort of tastes like chinese food.
