This beer was really done! I especially loved the intrusive balance of hops and the explosion of rye. This was one of the best rye ipa’s I have had. Another awesome product from Sierra Nevada.

Bottle. Grapefruit hops, bready malt aroma. Clear amber with a medium off white head and some good lacing. Rye bread, resinous pine and grapefruit hops flavor, finishing a little peppery. Medium body.

I was really surprise by this beer. Wasn’t expecting it to be that good. It pours a medium orange gold colour with a reasonable foamy white head. Hops hops hops! Nicely balanced. A nice IPA.

Bottle pours a glimmering bronze with towering beige foam that gives way to scent akin to citrus pith soaked in kummel. Emergence of malts in taste create a nice roux without stifling the piney tang of the hops. Unique variant with this one.

smells like pickle juice with oak and distant honey. in flavor too a dill/caraway spiciness, a little sourness and a woody bitterness. moderate off white head on clear amber, fine in the mouth. spicy finish.

On tap at Hamilton’s in San Diego. Pine needle nose, but muted. Reminds me of their Celebration ale which often occupies my fridge. The rye comes through but is soft. Very smooth and clean and quite drinkable as a session ale. The 6.6% is a bonus.

Great aroma. Good balance of rye hops and little sweetness. Really really nice appearance. Real bronze rye color with offwhite head. Taste is hop forward but with good rye undertone. Also the preserved a tiny bit of malt which is nice. Great beer

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 6, 2012 The nose is earthy and malty with piney resins. The flavor starts piney with a complex grainy malt character. Next comes hints of cocoa and a mild rye spiciness. The finish is dry and piney.
This is very much like a spicy SN Celebration in that it’s got good hop character, its solidly built and very dense for the 6.6% ABV. Very clean and balanced.

Cool bottle, solid beer, not so ruthless. Decent overall, with above average hops. Another solid offering from SN, but I think I got to go with the PA for the extra flavor it packs over this one. Never really been able to taste rye in rye beers though so what do I know. More of a piney IPA for me I guess.
