4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours clear, copper-ruby with a luscious, light tan foam. Truly gorgeous aroma, loads of fresh, wet hops, pine, grapefruit, pineapple, melon. Medium sweet flavor, toasty grain, some spicy rye, tons of meaty hops, pine, toasty sugar. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Sticky, moderately sweet finish, tons of resinous pine, citrus, spicy hops and rye. Delicious toasted malts, subtle caramel, fine bread. Lasting pine bitterness and modest sugar. Really an incredible beer. Wonderfully drinkable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours copper with one finger head. Nice retention with good lacing. Typical West Coast IPA nose...citrus, pine but with the addition of rye. Great tasting beer with plenty of hops and a nice balance of rye. Sweet with some spice, citrus and resinous pine. Nice dry finish. Very drinkable. Will start looking forward to the release of this seasonal each year.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Great beer. Lots of orange peel, grapefruit, pine, and black pepper. Spicy IPA. Could stand up to about any Curry or BBQ beer. Sierra Nevada does it again. They exceeded my expectations on this one!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(12oz bottle). Pours a clear copper color with a healthy off-white, chunky head. Moderate carbonation. Aroma is a mix of resin, citrus and some peppery notes. Taste is an initial burst of malt sweetness followed quickly by the bitter hops and peppery rye. Thinner bodied with a slick texture. It has the familiar Sierra Nevada flavor profile. Pretty good stuff.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Ar: Lemon and pine resin - a bit of black pepper - very floral, as well.
Ap: Clear copper with a medium and finely frothy off-white head - good retention and a curtain of lacing.
T: Toast malt and medium-light caramel and toffee, medium sweet - some spicy and peppery maltiness mixing with resinous wood and pine - a bit tannic, medium bitterness, and some lemon and tobacco on the finish.
P: Medium body with medium carbonation - finish is dry.
O: Very tasty, wonderful new addition from SN - peppery rye is very pronounced and mingles well with the earthy and piney hop profile for a very rustic and spicy impression.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a clear copper body with a thick, chewy, off-white head. Aroma of fresh grapefruit peel with a little pine. Light malt presence comes through as caramel. Any rye is lost in the hops. Really juicy citrus-sweet grapefruit and tangerine. Bread crust in the malt with some more caramel. Still not getting any distinct rye, but the malt supports the hops nicely. Medium bodied, but with a nice chewiness that avoids being heavy. Overall a great beer and a welcome addition to SN’s lineup.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sierra Nevada is such a class act. 20 years after they introduced me to craft beer, they’re still on top the world with beautiful creations like this one. Spicy rye is not at all overstated, just hanging out there augmenting an IPA in which the hops too know their place. A forward West-Coast IPA with balance? I’ll take it! Just wish it was a year-rounder.
Overall bump for being a broad production beer that I can find in any supermarket. Beer life just got better without having to beergeek out.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle at home, nice dark reddish with nice lacing white head, great looking beer. Aroma brings big notes of rye, and toasted bread, some nice grapefruit, lemon notes, touch of caramel and biscuity bread, nice. Taste is a mix of big rye spice, but not overwhelming, balancing well with lemon, orange and grapefruit notes, hints of caramel, toasted bread, hints of earth, finishing not very bitter but fairly dry and clean, leaves you wanting more. Definitely a step up, nice brew.

4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nose is cascade hops, orange rind, wonderful bready notes from the yeast, small hint of rye, smells incredible. Head is slightly off white, creamy. Just the right amount of carbonation. Color is a clear reddish brown color. Initial taste has some serious hop flavor to it. There’s some toffee and caramel malt in there too. Not a whole lot of mouthfeel. Aftertaste is unrelenting. I expected somewhat more balance. This one really burns with peppery hop notes. Maybe I shouldn’t have had the Fullers ESB before this one. Completely different ends of the world as far as taste goes. Personally, I was looking for more depth, and unfortunately this turned out more like the torpedo. Definitely would have gone a different direction with the bottle marketing. Enjoyability 4/5.
