Ruthless IPA is brewed with this rustic grain for refined flavors – combining the peppery spice of rye and the bright citrusy flavors of whole-cone hops to create a complex ale for the tumultuous transition to Spring.

A nice solid offering from Sierra Nevada, if not a little run of the mill. I don’t think they make incredible beers; they make solid beers that are great year round. Aroma was dank green hops with notes of earth and mud. Pour was a nice rustic dark gold with a one finger white head. Taste was very bitter and hoppy. Very earthy with strong bitter hops drying the mouth. The unmistakeable rye flavor stays in the mouth after the finish. Nice carbonation.

Pours clear brown with a medium sized head. Aroma is spicy hops with a bit of caramel. Medium in body with lively carbonation. Flavor is fairly dry with just enough sweetness to offset the hops.

Pours clear dark copper with a off white head and a nice rye aroma. Has that wonderful earthy rye flavour with a nice strong hop backround. I’m enjoying this beer very much although my favourite rye IPA is still mountain goats rare breed rye.

Copper pour with a rocky eggshell white head. Aroma is sweet with pine and light citrus hop notes. This one is nearly full-bodied with a nice creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is piney and citrusy with a nice sticky, sweet back end. The rye does indeed put a bit of spice into this one. This is one fantastic brew, I must say. I’m a regular drinker of Terrapin Rye and this blows it out of the water. Very refined, I imagine this one will stick around for a long time.

Light brown color and a thin, lacing head. Mild hop aroma with flowers. Flavor has dry grain and also dry, floral hops with citrus. A good ipa.

Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye IPA has a thick, creamy, off-white head and a mostly clear, copper appearance, with lacing, streaming bubbles, and some fine particulate matter (I’m guessing it’s yeast) floating about at the bottom. The aroma is strong, and one gets heavy citrus (grape fruit), sweetness, and some bread, and the taste is mostly citrus, sweetness, and bread. Mouthfeel is medium and soft, and the finish is easy-going and mostly dry. Overall, this is a most excellent beer. RJT

Appearance: amber gold, short off-white head. Aroma: powerful notes of citrus, mainly grapefruit, with hints of a bready malt backbone. Taste: a bit of toasted bread with the barest hint of rye spice, then a crushing wave of grapefruit and resin as the hops kick in. Finish: extremely dry, medium length, and pretty bitter. Notes: Was hoping for a lot more rye heat and spice. To me, just another IPA.

12oz bottle poured into a Shaker at 45°. Color is a big bright gold, nice carbonation and a small tight white head. Aroma is strong, almost stinky concentrated hop scent. It has a lighter medium body that goes down with a crisp mouth feel. Flavor jumps out with big hops of pine sap and citrus then the rye comes in giving it a little bit of spice before ending with a bold bitterness. After taste is cloddy with more pine and citrus. Overall I don’t like it all that much, its over hop which overwhelms the flavor.
