Ruthless IPA is brewed with this rustic grain for refined flavors – combining the peppery spice of rye and the bright citrusy flavors of whole-cone hops to create a complex ale for the tumultuous transition to Spring.

The peppery rye taste that everyone seems to mention seems to jump out of nowhere and almost shuts down the taste of hops, which you just get the beginning of. Strange beer, but I like it. Not Sierra Nevada’s best, but a worthy effort.

Tastes like a nice earthy IPA but has a very peppery finish from the rye. Aroma is piney with some citrus. Overall another very good beer from Sierra Nevada

Very pleasant sappy pine nose. Rye provides a peppery malt character to complement the citrus hops. Shake off the grapefruit mid palate and reveal earthy undertones that are grassy with hints of spruce. Finishes bitter and dry.

Sierra Nevada has about the doubled the amount of beers they make available in a year and they are all pretty good including this one. This is an ale brewed w/ rye and it tastes like a very earthy IPA. The color is a nice amber orange w/ patchy lace left behind by a small head. The nose is earthy hops w/ a bit of pine. This is slightly sweet but very bitter and so it comes off as a bit dryer because of that. Textures is a bit on the thick side w/ medium carbonation but this is still quite drinkable. I’d say this is a well put together beer but it doesn’t quite hit my personal preference for zesty, bright hops and is much more subdued and herbal so I could take it or leave it, really.

Pours bronze with a rocky beige head. The aroma has lots of spicy rye, toasty malt, spicy/grapefruit hops and some rustic earthy/woodiness. Medium clean body that is slightly rough and has moderately sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of spicy rye, dry toasty malt, grapefruit/earthy hops and a dryness that makes it seem like rye crackers were crumbled in it. The finish adds a piny aspect and almost a pine cone sort of harshness (in a good way). There is a lingering rye spice, spruce and grapefruit rind. Great beer from Sierra Nevada.

Big malty piney aroma with a small hint of vanilla. Pours a beautiful amber with an incredibly thin foamy top. Taste is a huge, thick malt with a nice bitter, hoppy background. Thick, crisp taste filled with flavorful caramel malts and leafy hops. Overall, a bold, full-bodied beer with a ton of rich malty flavor coushioned by a pleasant hoppy bitterness. I’d give this an A+ rating, another solid cold one by Sierra Nevada.

A great copper body with a off-white to bone color hear that had mild retention and no lace. Aroma had nice spicy malt notes and good balance from both citrus hops and pine hops. Flavor had a nice caramel malt presence initially and the nice pungent flavor from rye came through. Hops had a great bitterness to it. Some citrus but mostly pine. A well balanced beer that was smooth in the finish.

Dark amber color with big floral smell. Loaded with a rye flavor and just enough pine-grassiness to compliment the hoppiness. I nice IPA that won’t blow out your tastebuds. This confirms in my taste that Sierra Nevada is the most dependable among the big, nationally distributed craft brewers.

Yet another stellar brew fron SN. I love rye beers and this one is no exception. Pours a clear amber/copper with a minimal yet never dissipating head. Aroma of some dirty hops(in a good way). Smells very earthy and alive. Tastes very much the same with some spicy notes and a lingering stickiness after it goes down. Very well made brew that I would like if they made this a year around instead of seasonal brew like the Torpedo. CHEERS!!

Exceptionally clear copper body with medium sized, foamy, near white head. The aroma has a lot of spicy, floral, earthy hops, with some citrus, bread, and rye. Clean start with spicy hops fading in. Becomes bitter and citrusy, then finishes out with a wave of rye. Very tasty stuff.
