Ruthless IPA is brewed with this rustic grain for refined flavors – combining the peppery spice of rye and the bright citrusy flavors of whole-cone hops to create a complex ale for the tumultuous transition to Spring.

Aroma is rye, citrus, sweet malt, hint of onion. Appearance is medium brown small tan head. Taste is very tangy rye forward. Citrus very present as well. Sweet malt with a hint of roast present and keeping things in balance with solid hop bitterness. Palate is medium. Rye, citrus and pine resin hop bitterness linger. Overall a nice beer. Rye is very pronounced.

12oz bottle from Armanetti’s. Pours a clear, deeper amber-orange colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves lots of creamy lacing. Aroma is rye spice, dank hops, pines and earth, lemony florals, and a light citrus with the malts offering a slightly grainy and bready caramel as well as a touch of toffee. Flavor is similar. Dank, earthy and piney hops up front with a light citrus before some rye spice and bready sweetness comes in. Somewhat grainy before the earthy hops pick up towards the end as this finishes dry, moderately bitter, earthy, piney, and rye spiced with a light, but balanced bready sweetness. A light citrus and resin, but the hops are more dank and earthy with a light pine. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-light body and a very soft and creamy, moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid IPA. Very flavorful and balanced with a nice body and dry finish. The rye adds a nice spiciness to a fairly earthy, dry hopping and the malts add just a touch of sweetness to balance. Good beer.

Aroma of rye with resin, moderate pine hops and white sugar. Appearance is copper with bone head. Flavor has a little rye up front, but is mostly dominated by pine. Palate is bubbly and chewy. Good, but I would have liked a little more malt character to shine through.

12 ounce bottle. Huge hop aroma, citrus, grassy, pine. The rye adds a nice spicy accent to the aroma. The flavor follows suit, lots of hops, more pine and resin then citrus. The rye is spicy and there its a nice grainy character as well. A good rye pale ale.

Draft sampler on tap at Lunar Brewing Co (Villa Park, IL). Pours a faintly hazed darker copper amber hue, some fire and healthy glow due to the lack of haze. A decent frothy head dies to a small film, tiny ring that laces small. Aromas are dank, weedy earthy hops, a healthy dry hopping, with some lemon, grass and florals push forward, very dank overall. Touches of bread, biscuits, and rye malts offer a touch of sweetness. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, cool and dank, a decent bitterness comes on quickly. Dry, earthy hops are decently bitter, moving quickly into touches of sweet rye, bread, and biscuits in the middle. A touch sweeter than expected moving on, finish dries up a bit more, a decent hoppy essence. Not citrus driven, instead very earthy. Overall, a sweet middle and a hopping on the mouth that feels a bit underwhelming and without a defining character makes this beer suffer a bit. Ok, prefer Torpedo by a good deal.

12 oz bottle: Pours a dark copper, clear with a nice light head. Nice lacing and slow CO2 release. Aroma is thick with a grainy, bready malty side and a grapefruit and citrus hop side. Very nice mingling of aromas and flavors. Very heavy on the rye, almost like you are in the fields and yoru senses are tingling from the wafting pollen of the rye. Palate is complex with a dry hoppy flavor and abit of an astringent finish. Great tasting and malty IPA. Not as freshly hopped as some in its class, but a nice drinker with great availabiltiy.

Very nice rye IPA. Poured into a standard 12oz. mug from 2012 bottle. appearance is a clear dark amber with a small white head that quickly dissipates leaving little to no lacing. Aroma is peppery, cereal rye (duh) and citrus hops, maybe a little caramel too. Taste goes with aroma, big peppery rye taste and a nice crisp citrus hop bitterness on the finish. Medium body with a average carbonation and a nice bitter finish. Overall a great rye IPA which will be perfect after work sitting outside on the first warm March afternoon of the spring. Extremely drinkable, will be enjoying this over and over, and will probably cut into my SN Torpedo consumption!

Bottle pours dark amber with a thick light tan head. Aromas are floral and a bit of spice. Taste is solid malt backbone with a bit of spice and finish with hop bitterness. Leaves a nice lingering bitter finish. Overall, another solid IPA from SN.

This is a wonderful IPA. I really wasn’t sure what to expect but I had to try it because it was new and the art was exceptional =D This will definately be one of my go-to beers when I need a good, well balanced IPA. It has a nice dark brown color when poured and it doesn’t leave a horrible after taste like some IPA’s. This one is a hit in my book...
