COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ruthless IPA is brewed with this rustic grain for refined flavors – combining the peppery spice of rye and the bright citrusy flavors of whole-cone hops to create a complex ale for the tumultuous transition to Spring.

Has smile rye mostly light pine aroma. Mild pine hop taste with some faint rye, smooth body, not bad.

12 oz bottle. Pour is a mostly clear dark copper amber with an off white head. Smell is bitter grapefruit and pine and slightly sweet malt with spice and other citrus character. Taste is a spicy hop bitterness upfront balanced with a slightly sweet fruity malt. Good pine and spice notes from the rye, finishes slightly bitter with some sweetness lingering. Always liked this one, probably shouldn't have taken me this long to rate it.

Bottle from Glug, Newcastle. Pours amber with a big frothy cream head. Quite creamy and spicy with lots of citrus from the hops. A fair bit of underlying caramel too. Nice, just a bit of an odd after taste.

IBU 55. In a frozen mug. Copper color. Thick head. Not much aroma. Smooth IPA. Not too hoppy. A little more mellow than I prefer in an IPA, but a solid beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from the grocery store. Pours a transparent amber with a thin layer of off white head. Aroma of malts with a slight hoppy hint. Taste of slight grain with a hoppy aftertaste.

Really interesting ride of flavors from beginning to end. Starts with some brief citrus hoppy notes and a brief caramel-honey sweetness. Transitions to a nice malt ale with some dry bitter notes in the middle. Ending lifts to a dry finish with some more hoppy citrus and sweetness coming in for a gentle handshake at the end...as if to say, "Relax, I'm only 6.6%, so let's do this again soon." ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Backlog, had this in fall 2013. Copper clear, one finger thick head, some lacings. Smell is nice, with deep pine, hoppiness, citrus, hints of hay and old clothes. Taste is bitterly hoppy but not overly so. Some hints of spices, citrus and a lingering bitterness, finishes also quit dry. Medium body, average carbo. Kind of sticky texture. There is definitely a battle between the bitterness from the hops and the dryness and light spices from the rye. Works pretty good.
