COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ruthless IPA is brewed with this rustic grain for refined flavors Ė combining the peppery spice of rye and the bright citrusy flavors of whole-cone hops to create a complex ale for the tumultuous transition to Spring.

12 oz. bottle. 2012 edition. I have had several from the six-pack prior to this across the last couple of months. Tart, dry aftertaste features caramel and apple scents. Pours a clear copper with a moderate amount of uneven, cream-colored head. Produces good, long-lasting lacing. Spicy, floral flavor features a pepper element. Booze noticeable. Tastes exactly like the rye-IPA cross that it is. Dry throughout, especially in the finish. Long, dry, peppermint-y aftertaste. Sharp, lively, and smooth in the palate. Thirst-quenching and refreshing. This is my kind of beer. Itís very tasty and strong across the board; well-made and without flaws.

Pours a hazy iced tea brown with a pillowy ecru head that deposits sticky lace upon the glass. The nose is a spicy/critic blend of rye and PNW hops. On the light side of medium-bodied, the palate transitions from fine, tongue-tickling carbonation to a spicy/bitter finish. The rye hits hard up-front, in the flavor profile, and it hangs on throughout. While the C-hops try to push forward, they never take front-stage. I like most of the RyePAs that Iíve tried, where the rye note in them is generally more of a spicy accent to a traditional IPA. Here it adds a dominant pepper/spicy character to the beer that deemphasizes the hop contributions to the flavor. I like it, but I think I prefer my RyePAs to lean more on their hop contributions .

Bottle: Poured a hazy brown with a creamy off white head. Aroma is malty, rye/spices, and some hop. Taste is up front mix of rye and hops but soft malts that give it a balanced finish. Very drinkable IPA.

(bottle) Mostly clear copper body with a big off-white head that recedes and forms a stiff peak, leaving thick lace on the glass. Aroma of wheat, slight orange peel, spice, some yeast, light sweet malt, grass, faint floral notes, and some fruit (pear, grape, apple). Medium body, a little oily, some carbonation but not much. Flavor has that usual Rye character; pepper, strong hop bitterness is good and never over powers (though it is strong) a light but underlying malty caramel sweetness; musty. Long bitter finish. Some metallic-ness in the aftertaste, though.

Nose is like laying in a meadow that had a bushfire last summer and is just starting to sprout again. Pours amberlicious with a fluffy, strong head. Flavour is bitter and dry with gentle saltiness. Medium long finish with fat resins, shy sugars and sweetly flowing umbrous malts. The rye adds if not depth then clarity to the flavour and drags you back for more. And more. And more. Ruthless indeed.

355ml bottle. Dark amber colour with a big pillow of frothy beige foam. Looks great . Super strong aroma filled with hops and a bit of caramel in the background. The flavour is big and bold with a peppery backdrop. Lingers on the palate and the flavour stays long after the beer has gone.

12 fl. oz. bottle, 2012 edition. Pours a clear deep chestnut, with a medium off-white head, which lasts very well, and leaves good lacing. Slightly spicy, but quite mellow rye is the most prominent aroma, with some pine hops and a touch of caramel to back it up. Strong pine and spice hops up front blend nicely with a mild peppery flavour from the rye. The pine flavour lingers, mixing well with, smooth, dark rye malt in the body. A lengthy pine finish, with a resurgence of the pepper, leaves a pleasant rye aftertaste. A nice rye IPA, with a good balance between the more potent hop flavours and the darker, richer rye.

Bottle. Pours mostly clear, dark copper with thick, frothy off-white head; good retention and some lacing. Aroma is grassy and floral hops, caramel malt, spice, straw, some nutty notes, and light citrus fruit. Flavor is balanced sweet malt and medium bitterness hops, light fruit esters, and spice; semi-sweet, lightly hoppy finish. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.

Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye is a perfectly clear and sparkling light copper ale with a dense, lumpy, creamy head that has pockets of large bubbles in it. The retention and lacing is outstanding. The juicy citrus hops speak loudly of tangerines and grapefruit while conversing about spicy rye and muttering something about caramel. One whiff makes the mouth water. Itís medium bodied and quite smooth and lively in the mouth. The finish is dry and crunchy. It tastes nice and bitter with the main flavor being tangerine peel. After the swallow, thereís a wave of rye whiskey flavor. The taste of bitter citrus is sustained for a while. Thereís a juiciness throughout, but not really any sweetness. Wow, I see why all my friends have been going nuts about this. Itís a pretty manly pale ale. Itís hard to stop at one pint.

Bottle. Nice copper pour with a white head. Nose and taste is citrus, rye, and a bit dry on the finish. Nice smooth palate. Very enjoyable, well done.
