Bottle. Pours mostly clear, dark copper with thick, frothy off-white head; good retention and some lacing. Aroma is grassy and floral hops, caramel malt, spice, straw, some nutty notes, and light citrus fruit. Flavor is balanced sweet malt and medium bitterness hops, light fruit esters, and spice; semi-sweet, lightly hoppy finish. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.

Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye is a perfectly clear and sparkling light copper ale with a dense, lumpy, creamy head that has pockets of large bubbles in it. The retention and lacing is outstanding. The juicy citrus hops speak loudly of tangerines and grapefruit while conversing about spicy rye and muttering something about caramel. One whiff makes the mouth water. Itís medium bodied and quite smooth and lively in the mouth. The finish is dry and crunchy. It tastes nice and bitter with the main flavor being tangerine peel. After the swallow, thereís a wave of rye whiskey flavor. The taste of bitter citrus is sustained for a while. Thereís a juiciness throughout, but not really any sweetness. Wow, I see why all my friends have been going nuts about this. Itís a pretty manly pale ale. Itís hard to stop at one pint.

Bottle. Nice copper pour with a white head. Nose and taste is citrus, rye, and a bit dry on the finish. Nice smooth palate. Very enjoyable, well done.

Pint from tap at Westville Pub. This is a most excellent rye beer. Plenty of piney and citrusy hops cut through the aroma and the flavor with no lack of rye anywhere. Drinking this is like an awesome slice of pumpernickel. Finish is dry, needless to say. I canít see how this is not a specialty grain on the site. Rye is definitely the main theme.

Starts out so promising - beautiful amber body, with a light fluffy head. Aromas of soft blackcurrant and sweet wine dominate the aroma, although I detect some metallic off-smells in there too. Flavour again starts well; plenty of hops, and very fragrant pleasing ones they are too, but it peters out into a metallic, noble hop finish that while very refreshing, isnít overly pleasant.

Bottle. Really tidy. Tropical fruit hops. Pineapples and guava. Light bubblegum. A bitter finish. Really enjoyable.

Fresh bottle. Aroma is amazing, tons of tangy hops, rye bread, nice malt bill. Taste us a bit peppery but balanced with the hop rye flavor. A little smokey on the tongue but drinkable.

Pours a dark, copper-brown with minimal head. Floral/hop aromas are rather muted. Flavor is a pleasing combination of the hop bitterness and rye-grain flavor. A more toned-down IPA thatís smooth and not quite as bitter as some. I liked it.
