Ruthless IPA is brewed with this rustic grain for refined flavors – combining the peppery spice of rye and the bright citrusy flavors of whole-cone hops to create a complex ale for the tumultuous transition to Spring.

Pours a clear copper hue with a white 2-finger head that quickly dissipates. Hoppy aroma with hints of lemon and pine in the background. Strong hoppy bitter flavor with acrisp rye background. Finishes on the dry side of bitter. Medium body.

Bottle. (Tasting note- enjoyed this with spicy food.) Reddish amber with think white head dissipating quickly. Smells mostly piney/resiny and to a lesser degree grapefruity/perfumey. Flavor follows. Nice dry finish.

My introduction to rye IPAs came via New Holland Rye Hatter and maybe that set too high of a standard, but this just doesn’t wow me. It carries the wonderful rye aroma and pours beautifully, but start drinking and you’ll find it lacks flavor. The bottle copy talks all about the unique peppery flavor the rye imparts. Did you get that? Because I sure haven’t. I’d drink it again, but not for the price it’s going for on shelves.

Tap at Neighborhood, SD. It pours clear amber, with a fluffy white head. The nose is bubblegum, sweet tangerine, rye, spice and herbs (sage and thyme). The taste is wood, resin, rye, lemon soap, metal (from carbonation), umami aspect and a some spice, with a long bitter-dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Actually tastes a lot like homebrew... Still pretty enjoyable though.

Light aroma of grass and grapefruit but a taking a deeper whiff gets a nasty sour note. Clear reddish-amber with an inch or so of persistent head. Taste is grapefruit and pine with a nice bitter aftertaste that doesn’t overwhelm.

Bottle. Served at 50. Light amber clear color. Tan head. Seems like a typical IPA just made it red. Not sure I'd buy this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: APR 26, 2012 Bottle. Clear copper with two fingers of off white head that lasts pretty well and laces in rings. Rather modest aroma of spices, forest floor and grapefruit - no malt or caramel or obvious rye, and a bit dodgily green. The taste is modestly sweet with bread, pepper, juniper berries pretty light citrus notes, apples. Oily mouthfeel. Nice bitterness at the end with lots of pepper. Impressive and characterful after a bit of an iffy aroma. [3.7] Aroma is still pretty gentle, but whatever was bothering me is either not there or is no longer bothering me.

Bottle from Parkhill Cellars. Great hoppy beer. Aromas of caramel, grain, and grass. Taste has sweetness to start, with a long-lasting bitter kick. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Amber, with a frothy head.

Bottle: pour is fairly clear, golden Amber, with a nice off white head in this glass. It retains well, with some light lacing as well. The nose probably eclipses the flavor profile. The rye and caramel come through, while the hops reveal florals and mild pine. The flavor profile presents a hop bitterness, with some citrus notes, and piney hops. But it just seems overly simplistic. Dissappointing

Pour form a 12 oz bottle. Reddish amber brew with smaller head. Aroma of citrus, pine, rye. Taste is crisp, bitter, and tart. Citrus, pine, and grass combined iwth the crisp sourness of the rye. Not much malt or sweetness to be found. Rather light but still intense. risp and refreshing.
