harrisoni (5130), Ashford, Kent, England Mar 17, 2008 On tap at The Rake, Borough Market. Wow this was a bit unexpected to see this here. Went and spoke to Richard and the brewer from Freeminer to get the low down. Very deep ruby with no real head. Smoked roasted malt aroma, like a schwarz, bit of dark toffee. Stunningly good. Just does the style perfectly. Lovely. CaptainCougar (4637), Rockville, Maryland, USA Apr 16, 2007 On tap at the BJ’s Brea location on 12/3/06: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a nicely-lacing deep tan head. Aroma of earthy grainy German dark malt and lager yeast. Body starts lightly sweet with grainy malty character and some toasty notes, but overall a thinner palate and not much balance. Mes_and_Sim (4355), Highgate, Greater London, England Jun 20, 2008 A Sim rate (on tap at Mugs Ale House, Brooklyn, NY): Aroma of coke and a bit of cocoa butter. Would be nice if it were stronger. Very dark colour with no head or lace. It’s not at all what you’d expect from a German-sounding name such as "Schwarzbier". It’s a bit perfumy with a bit of chocolate. Very nice flavour. Much better than I expected. jcwattsrugger (3942), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jun 8, 2008 growler @Hoboken#1-pours a retaining thin tan head that laces and dark brown color with red tint. Aroma is mild peat, dark malt. Taste is mild peat, dark malt, secondary hops bite. OK/mild carbonation.
