Draft. Pours almost black with a thin beige head. Roasted aroma with coffee notes. Medium body. Roasted and smoked flavor, a bit of chocolate. Pretty good.

Jul 7, 2008 On tap at The Rake, with renffisch, duff and harrisoni, 17th May 2008. Very dark brown with a rather bland malty aroma. Nicely balanced in the mouth, with good bitterness leading to a long finish. Smooth and nicely weighted too. Better than many schwarzbiers but not outstanding.

Jul 2, 2008 Pours dark brown with a thin, fizzy, offwhite head. Smells dark toasty malty. Tastes roasty and toasty malty, semi-sweet. Tastes good but it’s rather one dimensional imo. Thin, semi-dry body, good carbonation.

Jun 20, 2008 A Sim rate (on tap at Mugs Ale House, Brooklyn, NY): Aroma of coke and a bit of cocoa butter. Would be nice if it were stronger. Very dark colour with no head or lace. It’s not at all what you’d expect from a German-sounding name such as "Schwarzbier". It’s a bit perfumy with a bit of chocolate. Very nice flavour. Much better than I expected.

Jun 19, 2008 Draught at Bishops Arms, Västra Hamngatan, Göteborg, Sweden. Black with a red edge, creamy small beige head. Roasted malt aroma with some faint coffee notes , and a touch of citric and spicy hops. Light to medium bodied, medium carboantion. Dry with a quite bitter finish for the style.
