COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You don’t need a magic mirror to see the lure of this beer. It’s brewed with seven varieties of experimental dwarf hops. These hops are so called because of their uncommon growing method—shorter hedgerows rather than tall trellis systems—that yields a denser heap of cones with unique flavors that diverge from their full-grown botanical counterparts. Each year new and different varieties are grown in this method, creating untried and exciting shifts in hop character.

A steady pour into my New Belgium globe glass produces a three-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a murky, light amber color that shows a hazed, bright yellow tinged, gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of citrus and tropical fruit hop notes mixed with spicy, clove leaning fermentation character. Ample notes of guava, lychee, ripe tangelo zest, bright kumquat, floral peach nectar, and light notes of pine, and herbal grassy notes are contributed by the hops. The clove notes accentuate the sweetness of the fruit character, there is a touch of peppery character, and even a touch of musty phenolics.

The beer has a solid bitterness and a finish that has a phenolic / higher-alcohol bite to it that provides a sharpness to contrast with the rest of the beer. Lingering in the finish is a dried mango note, guava jam, and accentuating clove notes. The beer is fairly light bodied, with enough heft to not be overly thin, and it provides a touch of textural viscous character. Up front musty, sort of medicinal phenolic notes mix with an herbal and pine character, though the dominant flavors are the mix of clove, and fruit notes from the hop character. Floral peach notes, bits of kumquat zest, and guava all play a role, though the peach seems to be the more prominent note.

Not bad, but the Belgian yeast can definitely clash with the hop character at times. Still, it is mostly held in check and this is certainly still an enjoyable beer.

slightly opaque golden body with a big white head that had excellent retention and nice lace. Aroma had a nice floral hop presence as well as grapefruit and there was a burnt sugar note to it almost like a creme brulee. Flavor was decently balanced a nice sense of sweetness from the malts and the floral hops seemed to come through the most. A nice note of yeast in the finish. A nice smooth beer.

Hey now this is almost a wit I can drink! As I’ve fallen out of favor with the clovey phenolics of witbiers and generally stopped drinking them, the herbal and citrusy hops here help to mute the phenols, provide a complement and balance that makes this quite a drinkable beer. Light golden hazy and fluffy head. In the final analysis though, despite that I somewhat enjoyed this beer I can’t see myself returning to it because despite muted phenols, they were still there and I could do without them.

BOD 111/14. Pours golden with a touch of haze. Outstanding head, lacing and above average retention. Light, but interesting, complex nose - grapefruit with tropical notes over a spicy background. Light medium body that manages to be almost creamy in texture. Slightly above normal carbonation with a nice effervescent finish. The unique flavor profile is quite complex and well balanced. It begins with the sweeter tropical hop notes, flows into grapefruit, then takes on a spicy character. The finish is a well flavored light bitterness that is slightly astringent with grapefruit rind qualities. An excellent wit/IPA cross!!

Pours clear gold with a fading head. Nose shows spicy Belgian yeast, light floury wheat along with spicy, earthy and herbal hops. Flavours include more spicy Belgian notes, herbal and spicy hops, light malt character and an assertive but not aggressive bitterness. Nice moderately high carbonation.

Aroma is hoppy and herbacious. Malty. herbacious. Coriander. Looks light... big white head. Taste is.... meh. Hops are dull with a boring finish. More citrus on the taste than herbs. Almost like a bastard between a christmas beer, belgian style, and ipa. Palate is watery but carbonation is good. Overall an alright beer but really mashes up many styles. Wouldn’t go out of my way to get it but in a mix pack it’s cool.
