FLnative80 (174), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 7, 2008 Bottle 24 fl. oz. A hazy, copper color with thick, off-white head. Nice longevity. Powerful, resiny hop aroma with a light malty backbone. Medium body with a soft texture and long lasting, dry bitter finish. Fairly sweet caramel flavor is followed by a crisp, hoppy, soapy bitterness. Although very flavorful and nicely balanced, i agree this one does not taste as fresh as the regular harvest ale.
borgination (95), Lee, Massachusetts, USA Oct 10, 2008 24oz Bottle. Pours an amazing burnt orange wit a very thick off white head. Beautiful. Has a very hoppy taste but not one that is to bitter. Nice hoppy, pine aroma comes off it. illkarate (51), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Oct 8, 2008 24oz bottle, pours a beautiful amber/orange color with a massive, off-white head. This beer is nicely carbonated and has excellent lacing. Flavors of grapefruit, pine, hints of... rye? The malt is definitely balanced with the hops. This would make for a great session beer... but at 6.7%, I might be hammered pretty quickly (not that it matters). Drink this one while it’s fresh! probstk (695), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Oct 7, 2008 Big, bad 24 oz. bottle from BOTW (Rochester), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. SE02/08.
App.: Medium-deep amber, decent off-white froth.
Aroma: Lots of sweet malts – caramel and big fruit – cherries, apricots, berries, pineapple; grapefruit/pine hops, dark rye bread crust.
Palate: Medium body and medium-ish carbonation.
Flav.: Much like the nose with more emphasis on the hops – big grapefruit/citrus, some pine and pepper, caramel, butterscotch, toffee, blood oranges, Seville orange marmalade; a bit off-dry with great bitterness and a little brown sugar.
Nothing terribly original but well-made and enjoyable. drjay44 (164), Colorado, USA Oct 5, 2008 24 oz. bottle...pours a thick creamy head, solid retention, belgian type lacing, golden clear color....nose of resin, pine, floral hops, minimal malt, mild citrus ...initial taste of floral hops, then resin and pine then mild bitter, which lingers, but not unpleasantly. Mouth feel of small carbonation and weight. A very nice balance between the delicate hop nose and its more robust bitter characteristics. Botnik (29), Carrollton, Texas, USA Oct 5, 2008 24oz bottle. Deep copper color. Full head with nice lacing. Rich aroma of hops and malt. Strong hops taste with a lingering hops finish. An impressive IPA.
