This ale marks our journey to the only place on the planet where fresh hops are harvested in our spring, the Southern Hemisphere. Our task was daunting-we needed to get the hops picked, dried, flown halfway across the world and into our brew kettle in a little over a week’s time. The result is a North-by-South fusion of fresh New Zealand hops blended with the finest North American malts. Its robust hop character presents an intriguing floral-citrus aroma leading to layers of fresh-hop spiciness. Enjoy!

Cloudy amber with brown tints. No real foam on this bottled beer. Citrus, caramel ,and some currant aromas. Plenty of hop bitterness and carbonation. Need to let this one warm up just a little to appreciate the true flavors. Citrus like lemon and grapefruit provide a big bite without much malt support. Finish is really dry.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer & Beyond, Tel Aviv. Clear golden-orange with low beige head. Hoppy aroma, notes of onion, light malty sweetness, notes of toffee. Flavor is very greenish, hoppy, heavy bitterness, herbs, grassy. Dry, light carbonation. Medium body. Excellent.

Appearance: Ruby red, thick white head. Aroma: Copper, hoppy, vanilla, leafy, a little perfume. Flavour: Resin, tangy pine sap, caramel, pine cones, long bitter finish. Hops are a little flat; however I think the bottle is a couple of months old. Still, it’s very good.

Look: Pours with large, sticky, off-white head (brownish hue). Has a slow, sticky retention, leaves lots of random sticky lacing and yes, a sticky layer stays on top for the whole ride. Fair amount of carbonation, clear, amber (rich, a bit darker) colour.

Smell: Has a strong, good malt backbone, lots of caramel, biscuit medium sweetness. Hops are more nobelish, some hay, straw, earthy and floral. Also a mineral character. Smell is quite subtle, but suiting.

Taste: Strong floral start with hints of citrus. The floral party really kicks in here, very interesting. Combined with malts adds this floral honey effect + some caramel and biscuit. The middle malt backbone is still strong and had a good presence, medium sweetness. Ends with smooth medium bitterness, here the pine and resin character of the hops steps out. Pine and hay with nice lingering floral sweetness stay for a while in after taste. They are a bit sharper here.

Mouthfeel: Fresh, lively carbonation, medium body. Suiting.

Overall: Smell starts a bit weak, but everything is in line and nothing off. The taste is where things get more interesting, strong floral start with pine finish and strong malt backbone to connect them. Another solid crafted beer from SN.

Some citrus hops and a light tinge of rust. Pours amber with good head and lacing. Finishes light bitter and sour. Some mash malt. Talk at Churchkey.

Fresh is an understatement. Very refreshing change from the more brutal ipas I’ve been drinking. Seems to have just the right amounts of hoppiness, floral and citrus flavours and a good length of bitterness. Cant emphasise the FRESH in these hops enough!

Draft - Amber color. Dry hop flavor, slight alcohol aftertaste. Not a typical IPA with the New Zealand hops so that is why I am surprised with the alcohol taste to it. I was expecting more of a bit from the hops.

Pours dark golden with moderate head. Smell is gentle, resembles citrus. Taste is extremely well balanced, with a gentle hoppy aftertaste that slowly evolves. Excellent beer!

Solid IPA. Very "fresh" as advertised. Aroma is very floral to me. Very nice smelling beer. Taste is bitter but pleasant. Very refreshing and smooth feeling. Great release from Sierra Nevada for 2014. I recommend if you want a slightly different tasting IPA. I love the idea of using extremely fresh hops and the New Zealand varieties they use are a little different tasting than the ones commonly used in IPA’s right now. Cheers.

Not much to complain about on this amazing brew here. Beautiful Pour, delicious hoppy flavor and that familiar bitter aftertaste that you would expect from a top notch ipa

Split bomber from Brunos with Sherm1016. Pours a bright copper with moderate white head in snifters....very nice. Nose is pine / citrus with slightly bitter initial taste. Mellows a little as I work thru it....tough work!! Very nice. Wish it was fresher...noticing some ’older’ dates on SN bottles lately....this one was bottled 4/24....drank 8/2....getting spoiled by local beers like Half Acre or even Maine Beer company that get us beer inside a month. Oh well....life is tough!
