canary dog (376), Rutland, Vermont, USA May 22, 2008 Updated: May 25, 2008 Excellent appearance. Deep and orange, with a full meringue like hop head, fluffy and thick. Delicious spicyness of hops, with an overwhelming suggestion of freshness, as the label explicitly states. Delicious hops, but not overwhelming. There is no hint anywhere throughout an entire 24oz bottle that this is a bottled beer. Totally clean and deliciously fresh. After drinking a 24oz bottle of this, I poured myself a mug of the amazing Smuttynose IPA-- and it tasted noticeably less fresh (too polite to say stale-- still a great beer, though). Easily, easily the best Sierra Nevada I’ve had. A superb brew and an excellent value as I found it priced. Update and rerate-- bought 8 more bottles of this beer and will be buying as many more as I can find. Too bad this is a seasonal. Easily one of the 5 best beers I’ve EVER had and a very close second best IPA ever, behind Dogfish Head 60 from the tap run through the re-hopper.
Beer_Hawk (673), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Aug 20, 2008 Draft @ Flying Saucer - Nashville. Amber in the glass with a rocky off-white head that left good lacing. Light aroma of floral and hops. The flavor is somewhat ice tea flavored, citrus, malts. Medium body and medium bitterness throughout. Decent but a little different. matt7215 (538), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Aug 19, 2008 24 oz bottle from premier gourmet. pour hazy orange with a perfect tan head. perfect IPA appearance. aromas is of subdued hops with almost no malt presence. the flavours are similar. i dont feel as if the hops shine as the brewer intended in this one and the malts are a little lacking. overall its an above average IPA but just not my fav. BeerandBlues2 (2450), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 19, 2008 24-oz. bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine & Liquor, Colorado Springs, CO. Pours clear amber with a huge, foamy, off-white head, lasting with excellent lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, straw), heavy hops (perfume, flowers, citrus, pine), average yeast (sweat) with notes of apricot, grapefruit, and spiced apples. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness; nice spiciness and lingering dryness. tomthompson89 (1100), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 19, 2008 nice amber color, decent beige head, aroma is kinda like pizza dough and citrus, flavor is resin, orange and some earthy malts, kinda an odd sweeter finish. phishpond417 (1360), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 18, 2008 Poured a cloudy orange- copper colour with a large off white head. Decent lacing, resinous scattered patterns of sticky artistic glass beer paintings. Flavors are green sour apples, grapefruits hops and soft spice. Aroma is well hopped and floral.
