When the beer gods bestowed humans with stout, this is what they gave. You sure Sierra Nevada isn't in the PNW?!? Pours dark black with a beautiful thick head that lasts a long time, leaving a beautiful lace all the way down the glass. Smells a perfect mix of malt and hops. Tastes...o'mygod. If all stouts tasted like this I would be a huge stout devotee and drink little else. Chocolate malt and coffee flavors are embeded into the wonderful hop flavor. Man, this is perfectly balanced. Mouthfeel is nice and thick with just the right amont of carbonation. Drinkability? Guess. Bottom line: This may have more hops than the style dictates, but damn is it good.

Does Sierra Nevada have a bad beer? This beer is incredible, leaving the bitter aftertaste I enjoy in a stout. Merry Christmas to me!

Bottled. Black with a scummy brown head. Masses of liquorice aroma, absolutely loads. It’s really focused as well which makes a for a distinct, well fashion beer. Many stouts try to be all things to all people and end up not being anything distinct at all. This is wonderful. Long bitter palate, rounded, curved mouth feel.

Deep rich brown with red glints. Tan head. Nose: hops, chocolate, coffee and graham. Taste is bittersweet chocolate and coffee nicely balanced by bitter hops. Smooth finish.

(bottle) Deep black with tan head. Roast malt aroma. Flavor is all dark coffee, althought there is a hint of hops in the finish.

Typical dark black stout appearance. A huge almost Coca-Cola looking head. The taste was all roasted flavors ... almost too roasted.

Bought in the usual SN 12 oz stubbie brown bottle..liked the yellow label..rather unfitting for a stout , but "what ya gonna do?" Well this beer looked superb in my mug ..i even got some minor cascading going on..overflowed the glass much to the delight of my Bassett hound "Lumpy" who licked it up!! Beer is a rather unstoutlike dark garnet colour when its held to the light, but its so darn handsome I will forgive. The aroma IS stout like dark roasted malts and dark coffee aromas prevail. Very nice and complex yet somehow simple taste. At first taste all you get is the wonderful espresso ( with 4 shots) flavour the second and third sips you begin to sense the complexity of the brew the creamy milk chocolate..after wards the good liquorice flavour even some dense spiciness. Very very smooth and yet this tests all the tastebuds ( except sour maybe). Very good drinking stout well done SN!!

Bottled. Black, shortlived cream coloured head and good condition. Lactose sweet aroams mingled with roasted barley and coffee. Syrupy thick and cluttered in the mouth with touches of licorice and coconut. The licorice lingers into the finish before becoming dry and roasted. Finally an earthy note emerges that reminded me of phosphor railway wagon brake discs. Trust me.

Beautiful dark color with a big head that produced nice lacing. Aroma seemed reserved, though; some roasted malt but not much else. Full-bodied flavor balanced the well hopped taste. Above average, flavorful stout with a dry finish.
