4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2005 Black, with a wonderful head. A real pleasure to look at. Aroma is great for a stout. Brings chocolate and some nice malts. Flavor is toffee, milk chocolate and whipped cream. Ends with a hoppy bitterness, and brings a wonderful palate. It would be worth a 2 hours drive to Stockholm each day to have this at Akkurat or Oliver Twist.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 9, 2006 Bottle at the Swan and Rushes, Leicester. Jet black colour, with a thin ring of tan head, like espresso. Grapefruit aroma. Deliciously light Stout - with an IPA quality, but a thicker and slicker mouthfeel. Quite light on the roasted oats, with an excellent taste which goes right across your tongue. Very faint coffee on the finish - subtle.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
dark brown with mahogany highlights, nice thick head, lots of lacing...
...a bit stinky in the initial smell, kinda rotten almost... but it went away...
...coffee, chocolate, and a hint of orange in the flavor... yum.
REALLY GOOD mouthfeel, one of the better ones!!
A bit too sweet (and bitter) to drink all the time. But a nice effort!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
It had a promising pour, with a lovely densely packed caramel creme head on a solidly dark body. The aroma suggests hops and chocolate, though the flavor jumps out "roasted" as in burnt toast, coffee beans, and wood briquettes on a grill. Distinctly dry in character, almost aggressively so, with a bitterness hanging on that later began to feel artificial (not quite metallic, but....) I tried a third of my bottle over vanilla ice cream, since the other night I had very successfully done this with the New Glarus Coffee Stout, but here the result was pretty miserable to both me and my wife. The sweet ice cream seemed only to accentuate the dry, bitter finish, and it made it worse. On the whole it is pretty solid stout, but I think if it were from a typical brewpub and not Sierra Nevada, it would be largely forgettable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
For a stout, this is quite hoppy (certainly moreso than the SN Porter). Good roasted malt characteristics, I'd definitely file this one under "dry stout." Citric hop twang mixed in with the roasted notes. A good stout but for sheer drinkability I'd choose the SN Porter over this.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
A nice stout beer with that classic sierra taste of cascade hops. A nice stout with a bit hops for some kick.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
A nice looking porter, but this is a stout...hmm. Pretty hefty head, quite large bubbles that reminded me of porter but they stuck around longer than a typical porter's would and left amusing head halos on top. The aroma is fairly mild, sweet, and a tad smokey and roasted. The real action comes in the powerfully roasted malt front, but it gives way far too quickly, I think, to an abusive bitterness of this way overhopped beer. Not to worry, the flavor mostly fades quickly before the finish arrives and a dry, sour aftertaste (not unpleasant in a stout) kicks it. Something of a soapy feel left behind by this beer that only boiled cabbage could erase. Not a terrible stout, but there are myriad better ones available.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
excellent hearty taste. Taste more like an IPA than a traditional stout. Good strong aroma

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brownish black color with a medium tan head. Very roasty sour lactose aroma. Strong roasted coffee and bitter hops flavors. Nice medium carbonation with a semi-dry finish.
