2.8 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A fairly good stout. Different but good. Alot more hoppy flavors than other stouts. Coffee flavor sits nice on the palate. Just a hit of choclate. Good taste of roasted malts.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This brings me back to my college days in Chico. Who else makes such an intensely hopped stout? The head is beige and tight. Nice nose of roasted barley and cascades, and toasty, roasty flavors of malt, followed by an afterflavor of caramel and pleasant hoppy bitterness.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Color is a solid brown, almost black, very velvety, with a tannish head about a pencil width high, very creamy and has a heavy frothyness to it that settled slowly to a misty skimming and left curtain-like lace patches. Every tiny little bubble was the exact same size, quite consistant.
Smell is of roasted malt and cascade hop, nice and crisp with a bit of dark toffee/coffeeness to it.
Taste is more of the same, its quite full & rich, mildly heavy, nice roasted maltness throughout with a good hop crispy bitterness. The roasted malt is a bit coffeeish and burnt-like and the hop lends itself to a bit of a citrusy bitterness mild bite. Very nicely blended.
Feel is a solid medium body with a nice drying feel in the finish.

Good stout, the Chinook bittering hops are a great choice...maybe could use a little less barley, but then again it's a stout and it's sierra nevada so... you do the math.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Among stouts, I like others better. More bitter/hoppy than some, nice look in colour and head. Hops noticable in aroma. Still a good stout, great compared to general beers.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hoppier than I'm used to in most stouts, but nothing offensive to me. Not very sweet but everything seems to be well-balanced. Good brew overall.

Black in color, creamy tan head that has a lot of staying power.Malty, hoppy aroma.Bitter sweet taste, malty, coffee tones and a mild hopping presence as well. The alcohol actually comes through on this one.Nothing harsh but you can definately tell that it is there in the taste the after taste is malty coffeeish and well hopped.Kind of a medium feel in the mouth.pretty decent brew but not something i would enjoy drinking in large amounts.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUN 4, 2003 This brew poured a medium head of brown bubbles and a opaque black body. It has a strong malt aroma that is very pleasant to the nose. The flavor is that of coffee and just a hint of chocolate. It has a good lacing and starts off with a slight bitter sensation that smoothens in its finish. This brew goes down very easily and is very drinkable. It is one of the better stouts on the market.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This stout poured a large tan head with fine-small bubbles. The lacing was fair. The body was very dark. It had a smooth coffee taste to it which I enjoyed very much. It also had a good coffee aroma to it. This is a stout that I could drink more than of one on any given day.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2003 Dark brown to black in color with a creamy beige lasting head. Aroma is hoppy, some roasted malt with notes of choclate (sweetness). Roasted malt flavor. Loved the hops in this beer.
