Jet black, opaque. Coffee-colored head. Roasty smell. Very roasted taste, but creamy and plenty of malt flavor. Very different than a Guinness (lots of people think they are they same style--they aren’t). That is, its a much sweeter, fuller flavor, yet still roasted.

Bottle. Average brownish head with good retention. Clear mahogany. Roasted malt, chocolate, burnt sugar, liquorice. Taste is also roasted malt, burnt caramel, dried dark fruit, black coffee hints, some chocolate and dome acidity. Creamy palate and medium body. Quite good.

Almost black cola colored beer with a bit beige long lasting medium head. Aroma is coffee, cocoa, smoke, roasted malts, some fruitiness, almost vinous tones, cherries. Nice! Taste falls a bit behind, roasted malts, caramel sweetness, bread, a slight hint of ashtray. Mouthfeel medium and co2 a bit high. Finishes with some bitterness, smooth. Quite good... actually really good. More for me please. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

35cl bottle at Beach Club, Oslo. Pours clear, close to black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt with notes of chocolate, malt, dark fruits and hints of herbs and caramel. Medium sweet with nice roasty aromas and a pleasantly bitter finish. Nice one!

Notable.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2015 A good stout that looks like a stout and tastes like a stout thanks to caramel malt. Usual patriotic rating here, but a very good ale.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black if not held up to the light. Good head and good head retention. I think the aroma is what let’s it down a bit. The hop aroma is quite minimal and I was expecting a bit more. I really like the taste. The bitterness is really well balanced and there is a rich malty flavour. Coffee notes come through strongly. Big mouthfeel. Overall I really like it.

Appearance: pours with a very large dark tan head, the beer is a clear dark brown color that looks black unless it’s held up to the light, some really nice ruby tones in there as well, good head retention Aroma: coffee, Taste: coffee, medium sweetness from the malt comes thru as chocolate and coffee, not especially bitter on the finish but the hops are definitely there Palate: heavy mouthfeel, frothy, fluffy, soft carbonation, coffee sweet and bitter aftertaste Overall: a good stout that leans more towards the coffee flavor, not very sweet or bitter, well balanced, could use more aroma, alcohol hidden very well, not a big beer as far as above goes, stands out with it’s mouthfeel which is very fluffy

Bottle: Deep, dark brown edges with a black center. Light-tan head on top that leaves surprisingly good lacing all the way down. Nose is sweet, creamy, milky chocolate with undertones of roasted malt, burnt grains, & licorice. Roasted flavor leaves a mild bitterness up front with a counterpoint from the sweet chocolate malt sugars. Cocoa, mild ash, licorice, a small touch of earthy hops in the finish. Maybe even a touch of coffee. Creamy body, but slightly thin. Overall, a nice stout.
