Poured this beer into a trumpet glass from the bottle to drink. It had a rich black color with a dark brown hue, and a big dark tan foamy/creamy head with average retention, good lacing, and excellent cling. The beer had a sweet malty chocolate aroma with notes of coffee, caramel, and nut, and also a toasty earthy hops component, and a slight smokey effect. Its taste was a sweet chocolate/caramel malt flavor with some toasty hops giving a slight smokey bitterness. It had an average-density body with a slight syrup effect, and was slightly dry, though a touch creamy with average carbonation and life.

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2016 Really nice roasted malt aroma. Almost a slight floral hop in the aroma as well (like the fresh hop aroma in the air when you drive by a larger brewery). Taste is a full flavored malty stout with some nice balancing hops. Finishes smooth and slightly bitter (but still with slight sweet malt). It is actually really good for a normal stout. Well done by Sierra Nevada. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice ebony black, clear, beige lacing ring. Sweet and malty, interestingly green olives, dried fruits, bubblegum, licorice, chocolate, mocca. Full body, soft carbonation, velvety, medium roasted and mildly bitter finish is long, milk chocolate. Excellent, good balance, complex, nice flavors and interesting aroma, lots of character. Highly recommended!

12oz bottle to tulip. Pours black with tan froth head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, roasted malts. Taste of same with a good spice hop bitterness in the finish.

Pours dark ruby brown into the glass with a creamy, tan head. Very aromatic. A fruity, red wine scent greets the nose. Lots of hops here. Taste is bitter, lightly sour, almost acrid in places with the roasted malts taking a distant second place to strong and acerbic hops flavors that dominate the brew. Warming. Seems more alcoholic than it really is. Medium bodied, smooth, with a light carbonation that stays consistent for the course. Finish is dry and very floral for a stout. Pleasant. Tastes like an IPA blended with a more traditional stout, but with the IPA taking the leading role and with the hops overwhelming the more traditional chocolate and coffee flavors you might expect in a stout.

Nice one, really enjoyable in its simplicity. Didn’t pay attention on color, but foam was rich, thick, light beige. Aroma of dark malts, sweetness, no roast burnt qualities, just mild, cocoa, light chocolate notes in front. From porter to me differs with solid amount of bitterness in taste- kind a "stout" mark or tag. Well balanced and well rounded, liked that this beer doesn’t become boring over time . Medium+ body, kind a thick, creamy mouthfeel. Some well complemented dry finish. Liked, even a bit surprised that such classy brew could be so multi-dimensional. Medium carbonation.

330ml bottle. Very dark brown color. Medium size, beige head, stays. Roasted malts, sweet, caramel in aroma. Sweetish malts, roast, toffee, spicy hops in taste. Sweet roasted malts in aftertaste. Soft carbonation. Nice mellow mouthfeel. Very drinkable brew.

Deep dark brown color with thick creamy cocao foam. Aromas of grass and hops surprisingly? with undertones of darker malts, chocholate and hot chocholate powder. Palate, Full body with somewhat thin texture leaving nice chocholaty dark aftertaste in the mouth that lasts. Taste is little bit bitter and dark, of dark chocholate. Taste it self is bit watery but after taste is the real player here. Overall, Interesting beer, Tastes nice and has dark taste to it which is nice for a stout, but it does smell hoppy and unusual for a stout, interesting!

About as standard & average as a stout gets! Dark pour w/ a foamy tan head & little lacing. The aroma is slightly roasty & malty. The taste is a touch bitter but a bit thin in body. It’s nice & drinkable but doesn’t have any qualities to really set it apart!

I suppose this is vintage Sierra Nevada, the original stout from the storied old days, and it does not disappoint! Pours a rich oak-hued black appearance with a solid white foamy head. Aroma is a blast of strong roasted coffee bean and chocolate malt. Subtle cocoa and earthy pine wood notes in the aroma as well. Taste is an exceedingly flavorful mix of roasty coffee and caramel malts and an earthy hop bitterness. This west coast stout is definitely distinct from its European cousins. Finishes with a cocoa bar bitterness. Was not as full-bodied or creamy as claimed by others, but still a superior brew!

PapaVillum (764) - Valby, DENMARK - DEC 29, 2015
355 ml, flaske, 5.8 % ABV, BB: 02/2016, købt i Kvickly Allerød. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
