3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tumbler in late 2013.
A: Motor oil with a small head.
S: It smells good. Roastiness, coffee bitterness.
T: Follows the nose.
O: The slight bitterness that this one had balances out the sweetness. It was very easy to drink and very nice overall.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottled served in a pint glass. Code on bottle MAY indicate best by date of 12 Nov. 2012 (from notes).
This is a truly black and opaque beer; even held up to sunlight coming thru my window I can see no light, only the tiniest red-brown at the very edges. The head is a thick tan color, somewhat irregular in density, and leaves plenty of coating on the glass.
Aroma is not strong and consists mainly of dark roasted malts. Also present, some floral alcohol effects and a hint of hops.
T - Hops are obvious but secondary to the rich dark malt flavor. The excellent finish is long, featuring dark roasted malts, some hop spiciness, and hints of dark chocolate and coffee.
Mouthfeel: excellent medium-full body with carbonation that is a bit high for the style (but not for this beer) and imparts some welcome crispness and tingle.
O - Sierra Nevada Stout is another outstanding offering from this brewery. Particularly recommended to those seeking a significant, but not intrusive, hop component in their stouts.
