12oz bottle in pint glass. Color is opaque black. Aroma is dark roasted malts, some fresh hops. Tall mushy foam held 1/2 inch over the pint glass, no spill. Aroma follows to palate- plenty of roasted barley with notes of caramel, coffee grounds and dark chocolate. Citrusy and bitter finish. Not as roasty as I prefer a stout, but delicious. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. A- Wet, malty, roasty, chocolate. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Chocolate, malty, roasty, watery, slightly bitter. P- Full body, thin texture, average carbonation, roasty finish. O- An average stout. Then again, I always seem to be under impressed with Sierra Nevada. A little on the watery side. Almost like an old pot of watery coffee. It was alright, but definitely didn’t wow me.

DATE TASTED: November 16, 2014... GLASSWARE: Samuel Smith pint... OCCASION: return from Ben and Teresa’s wedding... APPEARANCE: jet black body; impressively thick, creamy brown head tabletops in the glass’s center, while high-arching lace adorns the outer glass; good coverage overall ... AROMA: nicely hopped, slightly lactic; some smoky, murky qualities; some plasticine hints late impede the otherwise welcome scents ... PALATE: reasonably smooth, slightly oily; medium-bodied with a palatable late rush of effervescence on and under the tongue....TASTE: a much hoppier stout than its tradition encourages, with some dry hops lending punch to a rather brackish taste; sweet, roasted like coffee, and even at the finish, encouraging another sip ... OVERALL: a flavorful West Coast take on the British style; these guys do not do much wrong, and this is another example why...

(bottle) deep ruby-black colour with a frothy light-brown colour. aroma of coffee and citrus fruit, with some light caramel, toasted malts, brown sugar and lavender. flavour is mostly roasted malts and caramel, slightly chalky, with some notes of herbal hops, more coffee and a dry finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

33cl bottle. A very decent light stout. Nothing wrong with this one but nothing exceptional neither. Dominating black chocolate with orange peel. Aftertaste is mellow and quite hoppy. It is a very drinkable one without any strong dry notes. Why not.
