4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sierra Nevada "Stout". Catchy name, eh?
Ever had a beer with no head? The reason why is apparently because Sierra Nevada stole all the head from other breweries and put it in this beer. It reminds me very strongly of a stirred-up rootbeer float. Thick, light-brown and long lasting.
I really appreciate a thick chewy texture in a stout and this one does well in that regard. Somehow seems to get thinner as it warms up. Mild bitter aftertaste. It reminds you that you've been drinking it, but doesn't interfear with your meal. For the price it's a great value. Simple flavor but with some character flaws, or in other words, personality. A good introduction to stouts for beginners or easy stand-by for seasoned drinkers. It has all the right stout clues with nothing too over-the-top. Smells like leather. Reddish color if you can see through the glass.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark black but some red hue. Short creamy tan head. light lace. Roasted malts, chocolate, caramel bit of sweetness. Smooth roast, chocolate malts. Rich with an equally balanced sweet bitter. Pine hop character under the roast with more pine in bitter.Bit of citrus tang to it. Sweet and bitter linger. I enjoy this stout way more than average stouts. Great stout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Near black, near opaque beer. Pours a good sized rocky tan head.
Punchy aroma packed full of grapefruit, pine & grassy malts, backed by a solid measure of chocolatey, caramelly, nutty malt.
Full body with good carbonation, has a slickness to the texture.
Palate comes through with more bitter chocolate & roast nutty malts combining with citrus peel, & woody pine hops. Firm bitterness on long finish.
Very nice American-style stout

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a clear, dark, ruby-cola brown color with a fat, tan, long-lasting head. Dark roasted malt, chocolate and mild smokiness. Smooth an thick. More bitter smokiness appears in the flavor than was noted in the aroma. Chocolate comes through, but is expressed more in the nose. Coffee and coffee acidity emerge as well.
