Commercial Description:
Summerfest is a delightfully refreshing example of a traditional style lager beer. While lighter in body than our ales, Summerfest displays significant hop aroma and a tangy hop bite. The long lagering period adds a smoothness that makes this beer a great summertime treat.

Bittering Hops: Perle & Saaz
Beginning Gravity: 11.8 Plato
Finishing Hops: Saaz
Ending Gravity: 2.7 Plato
Malts: Two-row Pale, Dextrin Malt, Munich
Yeast: Lager Yeast (bottom fermenting)

Nice golden color. Bite from the hops is very pronounced. Not a bland lager by any stretch, but I don’t like it that much. Won’t buy this one again.

A good amount of flavor, a good bite, lagery flavor, but hops are there. Not bad.

Not a bad lager, but its does nothing outstanding or "Premium." This isn’t one of Sierra Nevada’s best, but to be their lager, it isn’t bad at all. LC

Perle hops should be eradicated. They are not fit for human consumption, and I would feel bad for cattle if it were given to them. With that said, SN seemed to try to make the best pilsner they could with their equipment and they do get many of the technical aspects right. This brew is not decoction mashed and it shows. It is also filtered which elminates even more of the flavor. It also does taste like they lagered it for a period of time. They claim "extended", but that might mean, and tastes like, about 2 weeks. That’s a long time for a larger brewer but it’s not enough for a real lager. It also does not taste like pilnser malt. They also appear to have used low carbon water which gives it the righf feel of a true czech beer. So in the end it tastes like someone tried to make a lager beer with ale equipment and then they put some love into by lagering it longer than 99% of the guys out there. Not bad, but they could do much better!

12oz bottle. Pretty good for what it is. It really is crisp and refreshing. I much prefer pretty much anything else from Sierra Nevada though.

Against the heavy and rich beers of the LA Craft Beer Fest, this one didn’t stand up at all. Thin mouthfeel, lacking in any substantial flavor profile or body, it was a real disappointment. I wonder if I’d feel differently if I tried it on its own. Sampled at LA Craft Beer Fest 2009.

Clear gold color pour with a foamy head. Light hoppy lager aroma and flavor with a hint of citrus. Refreshing. Not bad for what it is.

12 oz bottle. I was very anxious to try this beer because I am a big fan of Sierra Nevada... Pours a premium translucent gold with a santa’s beard colored head. the aroma is less than expected.. initial hit to the palate is light with a subtle punch of hoppiness. I can taste a floral bite and sense a hint of pear and light citrus.. It definitely takes the place of any mass produced lager but definitely not Sierra’s best beer by any stretch of the imagination. To be honest, this beer is slightly disappointing Still good but subpar for Sierra.
