Commercial Description:
Summerfest is a delightfully refreshing example of a traditional style lager beer. While lighter in body than our ales, Summerfest displays significant hop aroma and a tangy hop bite. The long lagering period adds a smoothness that makes this beer a great summertime treat.

Bittering Hops: Perle & Saaz
Beginning Gravity: 11.8 Plato
Finishing Hops: Saaz
Ending Gravity: 2.7 Plato
Malts: Two-row Pale, Dextrin Malt, Munich
Yeast: Lager Yeast (bottom fermenting)

Strong hop aroma when first opened. Strong hop flavors kind of makes me think of the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale but using lager yeast rather than ale yeast. Very smooth drinking with a nice spicey hop aftertaste. Really like the beer but it tastes and feels more like a spring brew than a summer one.

2008 edition pours a radiant golden amber with a healthy white head that leaves lots of lace. Aroma features crackery pils malt and floral hops. Excellent balance of floral hop bitterness and dry carckery malt sweetness. Very sessionable. Seems to be a distinct improvement over previous years.

The beer pours a straw-yellow with a thick, creamy head. I’m glad I decided to dig out the Pilsener glass for this one. Even with an easy pour I had to empty the bottle in stages. The aroma is grainy with faint floral hops. The flavor is light and refreshing, with bitter hops and an ever so slight citrus zestiness. A crisp, bready maltiness keeps everything in balance. The finish is dry and clean.

Decent beer, a little too hoppy for my taste, especially for a summer style lager. Drinks like their pale ale, but a little more carbonated. Overall not bad. I think the finish is too bitter. I probably will not buy this again. The price was not too bad, $12.99 for a 12 pack.

My first thought upon tasting SN Summerfest was "Reminds me of German lagers a la St Pauli". Very grassy and metallic taste to mesh awkwardly with a bitter aftertaste. I believe after 5 years of tasting various beers I’ve identified Saaz hops as a variety of which I’m not a fan. The other people at the tasting really enjoyed this beer, so perhaps my tastes are just not suited to this style.

Clear golden color. Aroma of hops and aroma. Nice to have some hops in a pale lager. Flavor of grains and hops. Nothing too great but not bad. Overall a nice lager.

OKAY, but really nothing special of note. Fairly easy drinking, but there’s a litany of brews I’d rather have on a hot sunny day. Still love SN, just not crazy about this offering.
