Commercial Description:
Summerfest is a delightfully refreshing example of a traditional style lager beer. While lighter in body than our ales, Summerfest displays significant hop aroma and a tangy hop bite. The long lagering period adds a smoothness that makes this beer a great summertime treat.

Beginning Gravity: 11.8 Plato
Finishing Hops: Saaz
Ending Gravity: 2.7 Plato

On tap at the Sierra Nevada tasting at the Winking Lizard Bethel Rd. location on 5/13/09. Clear gold pour with a medium white head. Malty and yeasty lager aroma with some hop. Flavor of malt and lager yeast with a dry hop finish. Decent for the style.

Pale gold appearance. Good whiff of the yeast and malts in the aroma. Well carbonated; matches up well with the citrusy taste. Crisp, clean finish.

I picked this up on a whim since I’m into the summer beers right now. That being said I’m still disappointed in this guy. I am liking the weizen version of summer beers not lager versions. I think calling this a summer is just an excuse to sell more beer. Pale color, light white head. Very carbonated, citrusy aroma. Bitter metalic taste. Quick finish.

From Bottle. Pour of light golden straw with a thin white head that quickly diminishes to a frothy layer of wave wash skum. Semi sour wave of corn mash mixed with dry hay and a hint of fresh mint leaves. Thin body with a very typical lager flavor. Initially, some fresh grass hoppiness, but that quickly recededs to flavors of stale straw and lemon. I’m glad I bought a single of this beer. My expectations were a bit too high after appreciating every other SN brew I’ve had.

Very soft hop nose with very mild honeyed malt. Slight grassy hop notes on the palate with a bit of spice. Clean soft and refreshing.

So, I rerated this one and apparently didn’t update the text for a while now. Anyway, here it is. A reserved, frothy white head crowns a perfectly clear, light gold body with effervescent carbonation. The aroma begins with the subtle sweetness of light, fluffy breads and wildflower honey. Delicate citric, floral and grassy hop notes bring balance to the equation. The flavor is never too intense in a single direction; always balanced and always nimble. Starting with a soft sweetness it rolls into a moderately hoppy, grassy finish. The palate is light, yet creamy in texture, with a brisk carbonation.

12 oz bottle, lager glass. Honey on white bread malt (M); dry herb hops (L); dough and sweat yeast (M/L). Light gold body with effervescient carbonation is topped by a large, frothy, white head that lasts quite well. Moderatelys sweet flavor, lightly acidic becomes a lightly sweet, moderately bitter, lightly acidic finish. Medium-light body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. There’s a very late astringency to this beer. The bottom line is: a little acidity here, unpleasant yeast there, astringency elsewere...

This is a very good summer lager. Firm, but clean maltiness, with a nice saaz-y hop finish. Not going to knock your socks off, but very drinkable.

light aroma hoppy with a slight malty edge too it. Poured a light golden color. It had minimal malty flavor too it. One of sierra nevada's more disappointing offerings.
