Commercial Description:
Sierra Nevada's newest seasonal draft, named after the torpedo-shaped hopback employed in its making, is a 6.8% IPA made with Chinook, Cascade and Centennial hops. Editor's note: Torpedo Ale began in 2007 as a variation of SN Celebration so ratings from '07 should go there. By spring of '08, the company had decided to make Torpedo its own brew entirely so ratings from that point should go here.

From tap at OBrians. Pours clear and golden yellow to orange with alacing white head. Aroma is grapefruity and dry hoppy aroma. Flavour is hoppy and slight malty. Strong hoppy finish. Not perfectly balanced yet nice.

Draft... RBSG ’08... Clear orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The aroma provides a wealth of grapefruit, pine and toffee. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and easygoing carbonation. Heavy citrus and earthy bitterness is actually one-upped by weighty toffee sweetness. Lengthy, surprisingly bitter finish. Malt head or not, I find this one too sweet up front.

A Mes rate: Cask at the White Horse.
Firstly, I have to say hats off to the White Horse for making this available both cask and on tap. I had a nip of the tap version but this is from the cask version. Amber colour with a thin white film and good condition. Amazingly fresh and grassy aroma full of superb US hoppage but never even close to being over the top and the best tobacco notes I have experienced. Fantastic icing sugar and malt and just all round, SO bloody good. The flavour is very much along the same lines. A beautiful balance of grassy hops and sweet earthy malt. Stupidly fresh and absolutely gorgeous. Excellent palate. Brilliant stuff.

Tap @ The Front Door, Boise: Pours a golden bronze color with a nice puffy white head. The nose is fruity and hoppy with a sharp brash bitterness and a sweet maltyness. The flavor is balanced, maybe more toward bitter, and has a nice thick body with a roust citrus and piney hoppiness. Good IPA, I knoew Sierra Nevada had it in them.
