Torpedo is an assertive American IPA deep reddish-gold in color, with a smooth and bready malt presence and over-the-top hop aromas. The beer has a solid bitterness and a massive hop flavor, yet remains easy drinking with a pleasant dry finish.

I like my torpedo’s temperature to get to the point where the label could be easily peeled at the corner and sweating. Usually I take one to drink and another out of the fridge, by the time I am ready for the second it’s right on the money. This is probably the best beer for your money, widely distributed, nice ALC %, and correctly priced. Bright citrus and pine nose, and at the right temp the ABU’s are rounded off nicely by the end of the sip. This beer is big and it is delicious.

Chipalsa (1310) - Florida, USA - JUN 13, 2011
UPDATED: APR 2, 2012 Poured a crisp hazy yellow. Aromas were sharp and bitter of hops, grapefruit, and light spicy alcohol. The taste was explosive. Tons of bitter hops, with notes of ripe citrus were very sour and dry. Undertones of sweet malts, and a medium sense of alcohol create a most satisfied palate. This beer was extremely well balanced, and perhaps one of Sierra Nevada’s most well put together brews.

Poured from 330ml bottle into tulip glass. Deep orange colour, cloudy but clear. Big thick white head with good lacing. Aroma is of pine and sweet fruits with subtle malt notes. Taste seems understated for a Double IPA, apricote and grapefruit characters, the hoppy bitterness is solid but well rounded. Good body and well suited carbonation. Smooth and lingering finish...but was hoping for something a little more robust and characterful from such a well regarded big IPA. Overall, enjoyable and happy to have plenty more.

Beaut colour and lasting head.Nice malt and hopy aroma of grass, citrus and spice. Quite bitter, a little above medium for me with a really nice malt sweetness. Bitter and dry finish.

Bottle at North Bar, Leeds. Golden, semi-coppery orange colour, big fluffy head. Very intrieguing flavour, lots of very interesting notes in taste. Pine, grapefruit/citrus overtones, hops. Lots of hops, as you want from an IPA. Hoppy and bitter finish, drinkable, but also a bit ’heavy’. Still, a lovely IPA that’s interesting and different while still being definitively a proper IPA. I approve.

Great beer as should be expected from Sierra! Poured beautiful caramel color with nice sticky white head and good lacing? Fantastic body with creamy smooth rush through the mouth? All the hops flavor you would expect and loaded! Not the boldest I’ve had but very pleasing with nice finish that last for ever? Good to know this will be around for a long time?

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2012 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pous a clear golden orange with a small white head. Loving the aroma. Very piney with a touch of citrus and a load of grapefruit. Grapefruit is right there in the taste with piney hops. Little bit of grass and citrus in there as well. Fantastic drinkability and all in all a massive crowd pleaser

355ml bottle at home. Pours amber with a big offwhite head. Tastes bready. malty , notes of pine with a sharp dry finish. Very well balanced IPA, bitterness level is upfront but still goes down smoothly. Excellent.
