COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Torpedo is an assertive American IPA deep reddish-gold in color, with a smooth and bready malt presence and over-the-top hop aromas. The beer has a solid bitterness and a massive hop flavor, yet remains easy drinking with a pleasant dry finish.

(Old BA rating - growler & bottle) Nice amber(y) color, that is slighter darker than the Pale Ale Sierra Nevada does. Lacing and head retention were really great. Malt cuts through the expected hop aroma that I normally associate with an IPA from the U.S. Was not overly impressed with the aroma, but still pleasant. Lots of West Coast hoppines, little resiny, great stuff, but had a strong bit of help from the malt . The sampling that I had didn’t have as much carbonation as I would have like in this style. Pretty good drinkability, and really love the hops. Would have to clean your palate big time before having anything else.

UPDATED: JUN 18, 2010 Dark amber pour with a good sized off white head. Soap, pine tar, rotten malt aroma. Flavor followed through with the rotten malt really shining. Some pine tar hoppiness tries to show through, but it doesn’t really have a chance. Caramel, bread, and sewer round his one out. Finishes astringently bitter (sigh), good carbonation. This was so bad we sent it back to sierra for evaluation. It’s gotten steadily worse since release. Garbage.

Light pine aroma, amber hazy pour with solid white head that persists. Bitter, with strong pine flavor. Some citrus and bread flavors as well. Pretty well balanced. Nice...

Pleasant hop aroma with floral and pine notes strong. Pumpkin orange and hazy with a creamy thick head which falls to a thin white covering foam. Laces like a doiley. Assertive but not offensive biterness. Delicious combination of hop oils. Spicy, pine, citrus all present. Malt supports the hop flavors but doesn’t demonstrate any sweetness. Dry , nicely bitter finish. Medium to full. Excellent example of an AIPA.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2015 Pours golden brown with a medium head. Aroma is fruity with quite strong hops. There is some fruityness in the flavor too but mostly it?s just hops covering everything. A bit too much hops for my taste, but I?m sure hop enthusiasts can really enjoy this. Quite drinkable nevertheless.

I just had this tonight on-tap at Bocktown. Served in a pint glass. Body was a rich amber hue that was somewhat cloudy. Bubbles can be seen steadily rising to the top. Served with a 2 finger head which had great retention and left lacing all the way down the glass. Smell and taste were similar. A big presence of citrus hops with a hint of piny hops and a sweet caramel malt back bone. The initial flavor is rich in citrus hops and sweet caramel malt. These two characters balance nicely. The finish at first seemed to be very clean non-existent but as I drank more the piny hop flavor and slight bitterness became more evident. The mouthfeel was decent. Medium carbonation and medium weight body. Smooth but not particularly rich in hop oils. Overall I really liked this beer and I will have it again. It does not stand out as a superior IPA but it is a very good one. This was a nice treat to have out here in Pittsburgh being that it is only available on-tap. Bottle. Pours a deep amber with a good size cream coloured head. Plenty of lacing. Huge up front citrus grassy hop aromas. Some malt sweetness but mainly hops. Fantastic aroma. Taste shows some biscutiy malt balanced by plenty of hop bitterness. Finsih is quite bitter. Overall a very well balanced beer and definately a new favourite.

Bottle from trip to Buffalo. OK, here’s the thing - I drank this while watching some TV tonight, and while I absolutely loved the hell out of it, I didn’t bother taking any notes. It was just a tasty, hoppy, lovely beer, and as soon as I finished it, I wanted another bottle or three. If you need to know more, there are plenty of more detailed reviews before mine...
