Torpedo is an assertive American IPA deep reddish-gold in color, with a smooth and bready malt presence and over-the-top hop aromas. The beer has a solid bitterness and a massive hop flavor, yet remains easy drinking with a pleasant dry finish.

12oz bottle. Pours golden amber with plenty of a lasting and lacy head. The aroma is dominated by hops mainly contributing citrus and pine aromas while the malt adds a sweet bread and cereal undertone. Tastes slightly sweet with a smooth bitter finish that is strong but far from overpowering the rest of the sensations.

12 oz bottle. March ’10. Pours a translucent copper color with moderate rapidly fading head. Aroma is very refreshing and floral with hints of citrus and spicyness. Taste is bitter but balanced out by sweetness and is agreeable. Palate is great, with a full body and lively carbonation. Fresh and crisp aftertaste. Above average IPA, my favorite offering from Sierra Nevada.

Bottled. The aroma has grass, pine and citrus. Orange coloured beer with a medium, off-white head. The taste is bitter, has the grass/pine/citric hops and a malty background. Bit sharp finish.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2010 This is a great double IPA - no hop bomb, as it’s way more complex. Not as aggressive as a Victory Hop Devil, seems more refined. More medium body, just the right punch of alcohol and hops. Another fine brew from Sierra.

Great orange pour, with a dissipating off-white head. Citrus and floral hops on the nose - not too pungent - seriously bitter. More of a honey-malt backbone than caramel. This one has some serious bitterness - borderline acerbic - with an aftertaste that reminds me of old keystone light commercials. Full mouthfeel, though, and if you can handle the IBUs, it’s pretty good.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2011 Biggish offwhite head. Amber body with strong carbonation. Fruity resiny grassy hop aroma with honey, mango, and caramel notes. Bitter-sweet caramelly mango hop taste with roasty floral resiny notes. Some astringency, but otherwise mild mouthfeel. Fullish body. Dry citric mango and wood aftertaste with spicy floral notes. Excellent! Complex, drinkable, and interesting. (0.33l bottle, Systembolaget, Stockholm.)

Pours a orange-amber color with a khaki head about 1.5 cm thick. Head dies to a ring soon enough. Aroma is a mix of floral scents, hops, and some malt. Taste is more of the same only that the hops are stronger as you can taste the bitterness as it goes down. Maybe some citrus hints in there as well. Overall well carbonated and dry. Now this is just my personal bias, but I’m not a huge fan of IPAs, especially really dry ones like this, so I don’t find this that drinkable.

Dark amber color with a nice fluffy head. Sweet roasted malt and hoppy aroma with hint of grapefruit. Sweet very hoppy taste with citrus. Palate is great and the aftertaste is long.
