COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Torpedo is an assertive American IPA deep reddish-gold in color, with a smooth and bready malt presence and over-the-top hop aromas. The beer has a solid bitterness and a massive hop flavor, yet remains easy drinking with a pleasant dry finish.

Bitter and Hoppy. Highly reminiscent of bells hopslam. Commercial description claims it’s balanced but it’s really a hop overload.

15-OCT-2010, bottle @home, from "Fish & Beer". Pours reddish amber with almost white lasting white low head. Quite dark for an IPA.Nose is very bitter pine and citrus. Bready malty taste with a looong very bitter finish. The malts makes all the difference. Some malty fruitines or is it from the hops? perhaps both? Anyway a fantastic IPA.

I picked this bottle up at a concession in Yosemite NP, and found that the outdoor setting greatly improved this benchmark American ale even though the snack bar-ish nature of the vendor prevented me from securing adequate glassware into which I could pour it. Well, you rough it when you’re in the national parks! Even in the bottle, this smelled just like an ipa should, with plenty of sweet malt lending a balanced, floral note to the abundant hops. The flavor followed suit, with long lingering bitterness that endured long after the initial burst of sweetness had passed away. This certainly deserves its status as a classic American ale that may have been surpassed by subsequent iterations of the style, but showed them the way to do it way back when.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2011 Clear amber with a yellowed head. Caramel, grapefruit, orangepeel and wet stone on the nose. Caramel sweetness with grapefruit, zest, some marzipan and a big raw resiny piny bitterness. Very dry bitter ending. A very tasty raw bitter ipa that ive maybe had one too many of.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. On the label the ABV is listed at 7.2% and there is a nice description. There is no freshness or born on date though. Appearance: The body has a light hazy orange amber color with a tall off white head. The head hangs on well and makes lots of cool lacing on the glass as I drink. Smell: It has a big citrusy bouquet with firm grapefruit and orange zest notes coming through over some candy sweet malts. Taste/Palate: It starts with a deep and pungent citrusy character that brings nice bitterness and a slight pine note to the sweet malt, of which there is a solid base of candy like and bready/yeasty malt. Hop notes linger on well into the finish and the palate has a well carbonated, firm medium body and texture. Notes: It had a little more sweetness than I was expecting and a little less pine like character. Overall it was still a very well made and tasty IPA.

Nice generous light tan to light amber head lingering well. Nose is caramelized pineapple, lemons, grapefruit, and caramel. no grassy aroma. taste is big grapefruit and orange citrus and lightly piney backed up by an evident caramel character that is a little inappropriate for the style in my opinion, but still a nice bitter and balanced ipa

Aroma is hoppy, hints of grass. Flavour is thick and rich, hints of roasted malt and coffee. Bitter in the aftertaste. Interesting beer.

Bottle. Pours clear deep golden/copper with a huge creamy tanned head. Aroma of piney hops. Taste is fresh crisp hoppy, supported by a good medium sweet malty body, peach and grapefruit. Nice beer.

Clear amber colour, medium white head. Very spicy and hoppy aroma with some grass and grapefruit, maybe pineapple. Some caramel too. Taste is very bitter with lots of dry hops and spices. Plenty of malt and caramel as well.
