COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Torpedo is an assertive American IPA deep reddish-gold in color, with a smooth and bready malt presence and over-the-top hop aromas. The beer has a solid bitterness and a massive hop flavor, yet remains easy drinking with a pleasant dry finish.

Bottled sample via mnurda. Deep orange in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas of mild grapefruit, biscuity English malts, a bit of pine, and toasted nuts. Flavors are of grapefruit pith (as opposed to the more juicy parts of the fruit), sunflower seeds, more British malts, caramel, and some minty hops. Firm bitterness. The clean yeast and grapefruit qualities balance out the rich English malts qutie nicely, but I kinda prefer the over-the-top hop style US IPAs a bit better. That being said, this is some solidly well-made beer.

A very good IPA. Nice flavorful cone hops throughout. Somewhat bitter, but overall very tasty.

Copper color, small lasting head...Surprisingly subtle aroma of hops, hard to detect...Very well balanced...Burst of hops in the finish then a hint of malty sweetness...Lingering hop bitterness...

Pours a deep orange with subtle haze and decent foamy head. Aroma is all pine hops. Flavor is much sweeter than I expected, sweet malt up front followed by piney bitterness in the finish. A decent IPA.

Clear coper colored with a beauty of a head, thick and dense. Big hop aroma reminds me of Rogue Brutal Bitter (crystal hops I think). Piney and citrusy with a good doughy malt presence. Body is medium fullness and smooth. Flavora are pronounced with citrus, pine and slight herbal quality. This is one bitter ale that bites hard and has a lingering numbing finish. Another stellar offering from S.N.

Bottled, courtesy of Narnad. Pours dark copper with a very large, densely packed tan head. Flowery, fruity and citric nose: grapefruit, peach blossoms, nectarines - aroma leans more towards the fruity the more you sniff it. Wow - a nice big, fruity flavor, peaches and apricots dominate with underlying pine tar. Finish is dry with tannins and sticky fruit juice. SImply put: awesome.

12 oz bottle via Hagen. Chilled for 30 minutes..approx 54f....a little on the warm side for me....Pours a clear copper with a huge compact beige head. Nose is nice herbal and citrus hop mix. Taste is a mix of toffee, pine, orange, apricot and pine. Very balanced between sweet and bitter. Quite plesent and complex hop profile. Body is medium/full. Very very well put together IPA.

THOUGHTS: Nice, but not a huge departure from the flagship and nowhere near as complex or compelling as the Harvest beers. Nothing spectacular, but will put together. A nicely balanced beer. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium, orangey amber with an average, off-white head that kept a decent sheet and left beautiful lacing. The aroma was nice but weak for the style. There was light to moderate malt, moderate citrus (grapefruit and orange) hops and lighter pine hops and oddly enough some spearmint. The initial flavor was sweet and acidic; while the finish was lightly sweet, rather bitter and lightly acidic with a long, but average for the style finish. There was caramel malt, grapefruit citrus hops, orange, a little pine and maybe some mint. The medium body was a little oily then dry with lightly fizzy carbonation and a light astringent and light metallic finish.

It was easy drinking. Hoppy, yes. But also easy to drink. I’ve had some beers that become impossible halfway let alone through a six pack. I thought this did reasonably well. Citrus hop flavors. Yellow color; lots of lacing and residue. Given this and a regular SN, I’d pick this.
