Torpedo is an assertive American IPA deep reddish-gold in color, with a smooth and bready malt presence and over-the-top hop aromas. The beer has a solid bitterness and a massive hop flavor, yet remains easy drinking with a pleasant dry finish.

(bottle) Pours reddish amber with nice head and long lasting lacing. Hoppy aroma, bitter flavor and finish. All in all an excellent IPA, one of Sierra’s best brews.

Medium white head and a dark brown hue not much carbonation spotted in the glass. It might taste lively but it doesn’t really look it. The aroma is a distinct lime like citrus backed by certain hops hotes. An cerain flowery aroma completely overtakes the malt. Now lets taste. Yeah the flavor copletely backs up the hop aroma blocking out any malt taste. So overly green its like a grassy garden of bitter spruce and pine. If malt is in this it is buried. These guys went a bit overboard on the piney specialty. This is uneven. Its hard to feel one wayh or the other about the palate. Too much hops makes this a frankenstien monster of an IPA. This torpedo leaves me sunken by the hops.

12oz bottle purchased at Buyrite Liquors in South Plainfield NJ. Appearance: Standard IPA Tangelo Orange, excellent clarity, 1-2 finger off white foam head, good oily sheen, retention and lacing. Smell: citrus, flowers, dry hopped perhaps. Not overpowering by not one dimensional either. A minor malt component and fruitiness in addition to the hops. Taste: Initial citrus hop flavor that opens up into a sweet strawberry kiwi note and finishes with a touch of floral hop bitterness. Well done combination of hops and fruitiness. Mouthfeel: A touch thin for my liking with decent carbonation. Drinkability: While the mouthfeel is a touch thin for my likes, it adds to the drinkability. This IPA has a nice flavor and kicks back with ease. This was my first sampling of SN Torpedo and I really enjoyed it! Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-08-2009

(bottle) clear, medium amber color with tall, light brown head; aroma of hops, spruce; taste of hops, bit unbalanced towards the bitter side, with long medium bitter finish - good IPA but not great by any stretch of imagination - far inferior to IPA offerings from Bells, Stone, or Dogfish Head

A decent, if relatively low-key west-coast IPA. Nice golden-orange appearance. Tastes like Sierra Nevada Pale with a much hoppier kick, and a bit of a better taste. A good IPA overall, and an excellent standard brew from Sierra Nevada.

Honey-Amber with lot’s of nice rising bubbles. off-white head, two fingers. Smells of a flower garden, lemon, lemonade, candy. Taste is similar- well balanced and sweet up front, with a tingling bitterness in the center of the palate that comes and goes in the finish. The sap comes out after a couple more sips. Good stuff!

Bottle thanks to Fred82. Nice copper pour with white head. Aroma is hoppy (piney, herbs and spicy hops, in that order.) with a nice caramel smell too. Taste is quite bitter, a little bit too much so. Good but off balance towards the bitterness.

Pours a translucent amber with minimal white head. Nose is pine and lemon rind, but mostly pine. Flavor matches the nose. Reminds me quite a bit of the Harvest, just not as clean or refreshing. A solid IPA and another very good offering from Sierra Nevada.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2015 Poured from bottle. Malt and hop in aroma. Looks like typical IPA. Pine and grapefruit hop flavors dominate. Finished nicely. Another winner from Sierra Nevada.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2010 Pours cloudy light amber with a light .5" of whispy foam. Aroma is very clean; heavy citrus hops, grapefruit, slightly herbal with a small hit of lemon tea. Taste is very clean with well defined malt and hop flavors with a fairly crisp finish. The Sierra Nevada signature yeast definitely shines by helping to give a very clean flavor profile. The malt is slightly sweet up front and is balanced nicely with the smooth bitterness and clean finish. Very very good, not great.
