4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from The Rake. Pours amber-orange with an off white head. Aromas of citrus, orange peel, slightly floral. Hoptastic flavours of bitter lemon, herbs, grapefruit, lime. Wow! Excellent hop-laden mouthfeel. Finishes with more hops than a rabbit on heat. Nice!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Lovely, tangy nose with citrus and candy notes. Pours orangey pale amber with persistent head and lace. Flavour is near perfect IPA - dry and bitter from the hops but with floral and citric notes and a gentle but all-pervasive sweetness underpinning. Or is it the bitterness underpinning? Either way, the balance is excellent and extends long into the finish, getting dryer and more moreish as it goes. Excellent.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
18th September 2008. Clear amber beer. Rich and creamy with a deep hop flavour. Creamy grapefruit that is bitter but not overly so but does lead in to quite a bitter lingering aftertatse. Some marmalde in there too.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 19, 2010 Bottle thanks to bhensonb - thanks, man. There is some significant Hop to the nose on this one, but mostly it smells sweet. That strikes me as odd. And the initial taste is exactly the same. The hop bitterness is not all that strong and I am a little disappointed especially when the the malt sweetness runs to such a one dimensional flavor. The sweetness isn’t so much a big mellow maltiness as it is a sugary sweetness, and then there is a mild alcohol presence that doesn’t help smooth this one either - doubly odd in that it’s only a 7.2% beer. The finish is where the hops finally assert themselves, but, by then it’s too late and it doesn’t really ever find a balance. A disappointing 3.2 for me on this one.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours orange/amber with a small persistent head.
Aroma shows lots of juicy and resinous hops, with pineapple, nectarine, pear and pine. Behind this is a fair helping of crystal malt giving nice caramel notes to balance the hops.
More fruity and resinous hops are present as flavours, along with a big malty kick of caramel. Quite an aggressive hoppy finish follows through, lasting for quite some time, bringing this back in American IPA territory.
Carbonation is too high which, when combined with the strong bitterness, makes quite a harsh finish.

3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rating #1... here we go. Clear Amber color, nice lacing, the head lasts. The aroma is lacking in hops, the flavor is not hoppy enough for the style, but it’s an easy drinking, enjoyable, starter IPA at a good price. Slightly hoppier than Sierra’s Pale Ale.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Lovely aroma, full of fruit (pears, lemons, grapes) and a hint of alcohol. Quite a nice white-wine (sauvignon?) element. Bits of sugar, candy (sherbet).
Flavours are smooth and even. Delicious fruity candyness full of hops, balanced by a crisp malt sweetness.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Slightly hazed copper with some particulate. Good head. Creamy texture and lasts a while. Some citrus zest and pine in the aroma, but not exactly big aroma for the style, at least modern interpretations with dry hopping so prevalent. The hoppiness comes out much more in the flavor finishing up with a fairly sharp bitterness that is not unpleasant. Light fruitiness under the hops in the aroma.

3.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Clear amber color. Well balanced flavor, good level of bitterness (not too strong yet not too weak). Taste of pine, citrus, herbs. In general an enjoyable IPA which is easy to drink and affordable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear, amber color, moderate, white head; aroma of pinewood hops, citrus, sweet malt in the background; mouthfeel is a bit tangly, but also pretty smooth; in flavor slightly harsh bitterness is balanced by (a bit too much) sweet malt; still remains enjoyble.
