Torpedo is an assertive American IPA deep reddish-gold in color, with a smooth and bready malt presence and over-the-top hop aromas. The beer has a solid bitterness and a massive hop flavor, yet remains easy drinking with a pleasant dry finish.

2009 batch. 12 oz. brown, stubby bottle. Poured out a deep copper color, with a thick, sticky tan head. Tastes exactly like a lighter version of Bigfoot. Same mouthfeel, same hop profile, same malts. If you closed your eyes, you’d swear it was Bigfoot. Damn good beer overall.

Crushed with Jakebra. Lots of caramelly sweetness on the nose, and some hop aroma. A little floral aroma, some grapefruit, but the sweetness dominates. Flavor is about the same. Was expecting more hops in this brew.

This is a pretty solid IPA. Nice aroma, and plenty of hops throughout. Amazingly, the bitterness, which is very strong, seems to stay at the same level, from the first sip to the aftertaste. A little bit more of the floral hops is all this really needs.

Copper in color... Exudes a delicious hoppy aroma... Flavor is not as hoppy as the aroma would suggest, but definitely leaves a lingering hoppy bitterness on the palate long after swallowed... A solid beer, could use a little more sweetness a la the Dogfish head 90 minute IPA...

Bottle. Pour is an amber orange color. Has a long lasting white head that leaves lacing on the side of the glass as you go. Smell is strong pine and hop characters. Taste is bitter hops. A great IPA, you can feel the hops come out your nose when you drink it.

Single from Archer Liquors. Pours orangish with a frothy white heasd. Heavily carbonated. Aroma is of hops, pine, and bread. Not a very overwhelming aroma on this one. Taste is of citrus, hops, and pine. Has a very nice bready malt backbone behind the hop taste. Mouthfeel is medium and it goes down very easy. Lingering bitterness. A very tasty beer without being too bitter or too sweet.

From a twelve ounce bottle purchased at "Kellers IGA" in Cincinnati, Ohio - This one pours a copperish gold brew with tall, light tan head of dense foam and a surprisingly yeasty aroma. Tastewise, the grapefruity hops are straight up front and center, but the backdrop of yeast and malts are certainly there, all leading to a fine, bitter finish. A fine beer!

Pours a clear amber with a wonderful off-white head that lasts. Citrus and pine aromas. Sticky pine flavor; very dry. Nice lingering bitter finish. Extremely drinkable considering it has an aclohol content of 7.2%. A VERY impressive IPA.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2009 This was purchased the Caboose in Ashland. The color was a clear copper and poured with fluffy head. The citrus flavors of grapefruit were evident in the aroma and taste. this is a special IPA. It is smooth with the wonderful hops bitterness. The IPA was of medium body and slightly bitter finish. I am going for a six pack the next time.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA is a very clear light amber ale with a creamy off-white head that has great longevity and leaves great lacing. The aroma is heavy with notes of pine and grapefruit. I would expect no less from Sierra Nevada. There is a light smell of caramel-- probably crystal malt. It has a lively medium body that’s pretty dry all the way to the finish. It tastes like it smells, pretty much. It’s quite bitter and well balanced. The 7.2% ABV isn’t detectable at all, so watch out if you feel like pounding these, folks. This kind of reminds me of their Celebration Ale.
