2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours brown with an off white head. Aroma is a bit of malt, maybe some chocolate, a hint of hops. Flavor is pretty boring. Generic "ale" taste, not bright, not super malty, not much of anything. Pretty boring.

1.2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
Bottle from a 12-pack - all of them came out the same. Taste is dry and very roasty. Beer seems like someone "messed up a stout" by forgetting the Chocolate malt, or something. Overly carbonated for the style, and the mouthfeel was more like that of a pale ale than an autumn brown ale. Sierra Nevada really missed the mark on this, replacing their finest beer, Anniversary Ale, with the worst beer in their lineup. I really hope this one goes away or gets fixed - it should have a smoother malt backbone or an interesting hop aroma, but it just tastes like cheap beer. Iíve been adding hop oil in the glass to make them taste more interesting.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
A: The pour is a nice deep, rich brown color with a solid off-white head.
S: There is a weird aroma to this beer. Roasted, almost burnt, nuts, sulfur, butter, toasted malts, and a mild sweetness.
T: Immediately there is a noticeable astringency to this beer. Burnt and bitter nuts, slight sulfur, and a bit of toffee and caramel sweetness.
M: The body is slightly watery and thin, with a moderate level of carbonation.
D: A really disappointing effort from a brewery that is nearly bulletproof. And itís even worse because it is replacing a solid offering.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Deep brown color with a lively tan head. Light roasted malt aroma with caramel and faint bitter hops in the background. Flavor is more towards the bitter side but there is enough of a nutty, earthy flavor to provide balance. Carbonated perfectly. Pretty good stuff.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
So glad I can get this as a single... Slightly foul, smoky odor. Bitter, nutty flavor. Not necessarily bad taste but canít get past that smell. Maybe a bad bottle, or maybe Sierra Nevada should stick to the pales.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft @ The Sushi Bar, McCall, ID: Pours a dark brown color with a nice tan head. The nose is roasty, nutty, smoky and malty. Everything you need or want in a brown ale is here. The fresh roasted malts really add a unique umami and toastiness that isnít rivaled often. Clean light noble hops that only show in the distant finish and a solid moderate body. Fantastic way to accentuate a usually mundane style.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma here is mostly of roasted malts...a smattering of hops....and thereís also somewhat of a metallic smell.
Initial taste is of roasted malts that arenít extremely assertive nor muted...sort of medium in intensity. Thereís a pretty solid hop backbone here as well, with floral hoppiness leading into the finish....which showcases a bit of coffee and sweeter caramel malt that gives this beer somewhat of a nice, sweet finish to it.
All in all, it certainly isnít bad. It probably wonít knock anybody over, but brown ales rarely do.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a very thin brown color with tints of red. Nutty and chocolaty notes. Decent for a brown ale.
