Sierra Nevada uses malt within days of roasting at the peak of its flavor to give Tumbler a gracefully smooth malt character. Two-row pale, crystal 40, chocolate and smoked malts give it a malty complexity. Challenger hops in the boil add balancing bitterness, while more Challengers and some Goldings give just enough hop flavor in the finish to balance all that malt.

Pours a clean rusty copper with a one finger frothy light tan head. Nose is grain with notes of toast and light caramel. Flavor is rusty and grainy with a toasty Munich malt character, leafy hop character. Palate shows a medium carbonation and low bitterness.

(24 oz bottle). Pours clear brown/dark amber color with thick off-white head and great lacing. Aroma of caramel, light grass, leaves. Taste is semi-sweet with mild bitterness. Light to medium body with thin/oily texture. Finish is slightly bitter, but pleasing. I was actually expecting more bitterness, but Iím quite happy that SN toned it down. It makes for a balanced beer and one that is easy to drink. Iím not much of a brown ale fan, but I would definitely drink this one again and could make a session out of it.

Dark maple syrup brown with an off-white head - clear up to light with a tinge of red. Subtle nose of of toasted malt, bread and earthy hops. Very well balanced and bold flavor. Prominent malty backbone with notes of caramel, nuttiness, toffee, light chocolate and a solid presence of earthy British hops. Has that classic Sierra Nevada thick, lush and creamy texture to the body with moderate carbonation. Really good brown ale.

Pours a clear brown with a off white cap. The aroma is slight nuttiness, macanudo gold cigar, chocolate, all very light. The flavor again is a slight nuttiness, caramel malty sweetness, a touch of burnt bitterness in the finish. Crisp. Well Balanced. Not anything to rave about, but certainly enjoyable.

Pours a very dark copper, with a red tinge and a light tan head. Cocoa notes are there, as is a tobacco smell - you know the kind of tobacco smell from people rolling their own, a smell I love by the way, even though I have never smoked in my life. Tastewise, light chocolate with caramel and biscuitiness thrown in for good measure, with a crisp hoppy bite in the background.

24oz. bottle poured into an imperial pint glass. Bottled on July 8th. Pours a deep brown. Not opaque. Exhibits good carbonation. Two inches of lumpy head forms and quickly dissipates. Fair amount of lacing. Nutty, roasted malt on the nose with a touch of coffee and dark chocolate notes. Medium bodied and just enough carbonation to make the mouthfeel nice and easy. Definitely sessionable. Sweeter on the palate. The roasted, nutty flavors come across after those of semisweet chocolate. This is the best brown ale I have had in a long time.

12 oz. bottle. Pouring crystal clear, with a deep crimson-mahogany color, the body supports a small, fading head of smooth, beige tinted foam. Minimal wet lace spotting shows on the glass. The nose is simple and straightforward, showing notes of toasty-sweet caramelized grain, dried brown sugar, and rye bread crust in the malt base. Hops are mild and floral, lending just a touch of edge to the malt dominant profile. Flavors are largely the same, again very toasty and malty, with nicely roasted and caramelized grain malt, along with a toasted nuttiness and soft, earthen hop bitterness on the back end. Itís nice and dry, as the bready yeast has eaten up a good amount of the malt sugar. The palate, as mentioned before, is dry, almost chalky. Carbonation is moderate, but it tends to drag across the tongue. Overall, itís a pretty solidly made brown ale, but itís not all that interesting.

Pours a lacing light tan head with a clear, brown body. Aromas of brown sugar, roasted medium maltiness, and a slightly grassy hoppiness. Flavor is much the same. Brown sugar and lightly toasted brown bread with a slightly dry finish. Nice body. Bitterness lasts a while.
