COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sierra Nevada uses malt within days of roasting at the peak of its flavor to give Tumbler a gracefully smooth malt character. Two-row pale, crystal 40, chocolate and smoked malts give it a malty complexity. Challenger hops in the boil add balancing bitterness, while more Challengers and some Goldings give just enough hop flavor in the finish to balance all that malt.

Pours deep brown with a large tan head. The aroma has a nuttiness reminiscent of pecans, smooth toasty malt, hints of spicy hops and is very clean overall. Medium slick body that has semi-soft carbonation. The flavor starts out with smooth rich nuttiness, smooth malt and a light bit of spice. the finish has a bit more spice, but is still smooth, toasty and nutty. Not the most complex beer, but this is really nice and easy to drink. this will be perfect for the autumn days as stated on the bottle.

Bottle. Poured a clear brown color with great head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted chestnut. Tasted great with hints of smoked and roasted malts. Excellent brown ale! I would recommend it for sure.

Weak wood and berry nose. Clear cola, thin head, good lace. Berry and twig flavor. Alcohol noticeable. Eh, not all that great.

Bottle. Pours a deep amber-brown color with some caramel highlights a thick, rocky beige head that slowly receded to a frothy layer and left some spotty lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, nuts, and a little burnt grain. Smooth, sweet entry with some caramel and chocolate leads into a moderately roasty middle that is met with a lightly bitter, dry hoppiness that quickly fades giving way to some light hints of roast and chocolate that linger into the finish. Low carbonation and somewhat thin mouth feel. Overall, this is a decent beer that starts pretty promising and then misses a little bit. A little more hopping would help offset the sweetness, and the palate was a little lacking considering the relatively heavy flavors.

im leery of most of sierra nevada’s products as im not a hophead, but this one was very well done. aroma is a little nutty, pours with a thick head and big effervescent bubbles. flavor is smooth maltiness without being cloying or sweet, with a nice balanced nuttiness and darker grains. very well done.

Bottle from SL. The pour was amber to brown, off-white colored head. The aroma was caramel, chocolate and roast. The flavor followed, ashy and smoky roast factor fairly prominent, finishing with an assertive hop presence. Body was moderate to full for a brown ale, although it did have a dry element from the hops and carbonation that kept it fairly drinkable.

Bottle. Frothy, tan head, slowly diminishing. Brown body. Pleasant and surprisingly forward aroma of roasted malts, smoke, chocolate, a little char and floral hops. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Thin to medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Crisp, clean finish. Easy to drink and much more interesting and drinkable than 95% of the brown ales I’ve tried. The only off-putting characteristic was a slight perfumey taste from the floral hops, a flavor that didn’t mesh with the almost stout-like roastiness. Otherwise, an OK. pleasant beer.
