3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Experienced from a 12oz bottle in an English pint glass. The beer pours a fairly translucent light to medium brown, with a very faint white head. The nose is initially somewhat unappetizing, giving notes more akin to Bud Light than a malty brown ale. Slight alcohol and unpleasant grainy notes, along with a subtle roasted malt note that comes through as the sample warms. The palate is also something of a disappointment. Carbonation is too high, muting the malts advertised on the beerís label, and leaving a somewhat insipid mouthfeel. Again, a slight roasted note, but little else. A somewhat harsh bitterness comes through, near the end of the palate. The finish is crisp, bolstered by the aforesaid high level of carbonation. Overall, a rare miss from an otherwise excellent brewery.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Poured clear red brown with thin fast dissipating white head. Aroma of smoked malt, cinnamon and caramel. Flavour is, if I may call it that, a mezza, a little caramel, a little smoke, a little roast, all very well balanced. Sweet malt lasting finish with enough hop.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Another impressive beer from Sierra Nevada. Though I love most brown ales I can get my hands on, this on was really just somewhat in the middle of the road with itís delivery. The aroma was somewhat nutty with hints of malts and barely, while the taste was a little bitter and somewhat chewy. A good drink, but I donít think Iíll seek it out again.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a rich, dark, opaque chocolate brown with a fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma is spicy and malty and has a hint of caramel. Mainly malty flavor has tones of cloves and cinnamon and caramel traces. Lively, fizzy texture leaves a strong tingle as well as a malty and spicy finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is medium brown.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted bread, nuts), moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers, lemon).
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Likely just a variation of their standard brown ale, which is also 5.5% and uses EKG hops for aroma, but at least compared to the last time I had the regular one (í06), this is quite a bit better. This is a light, simple quaffer, and arguably more hoppy in both nose and mouth than malty (I donít understand the "all that malt" phrase in the description, because this isnít very malty in either nose or mouth), but thatís way better than the usual dull syrupy sweet mess that most brown ales are. Very well-balanced, crisp finish, and thankfully none of the raw, vitamin B yeast stink that plagues the majority of this breweryís products. It isnít exciting, but itís quite solid. One of SNís best beers.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Itís an opaque brown pour with reddish highlights. The flavor is roasty, slightly sweet, with some hops. All in all, itís a tasty session beer.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle into mug. Thanks, Brenn79, for the birthday present! Some faint nutty and caramel malt notes in the nose. Some grain present, too. Pours amber-brown with a nice thick rocky head with long retention; leaves nice lacework. Taste is mildly sweet with very little bitterness. Some honey flavor here. Pretty subdued though (man Iíve been using that word a lot in my reviews lately). Carbonation is medium and soft. Somewhat creamy texture. Medium bodied. Very drinkable, but somewhat boring for Sierra Nevada. Would make a nice session beer.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours black with a modest beige head and a faint chocolate aroma. There is a hearty roasted malt flavor with some carbonation and a dry bitter finish.
