Sierra Nevada uses malt within days of roasting at the peak of its flavor to give Tumbler a gracefully smooth malt character. Two-row pale, crystal 40, chocolate and smoked malts give it a malty complexity. Challenger hops in the boil add balancing bitterness, while more Challengers and some Goldings give just enough hop flavor in the finish to balance all that malt.

Brown ale with a reddish hue, healthy carbonation and a light brown head that leaves behind a nice, thick frothy lacing. Hoppy malt aroma and a flavor just as hoppy with a nutty finish. The hops dosage and a hint of smoked malt gives this brown a really great autumn ale...

Best American Brown that I have tasted in awhile. Sierra is right about the smooth: this is a beautiful malty brown with a slight Cascade hint lurking in the background

Slightly clear dark brown with almost no head. Aroma of malt and roasted grain. Roasted cereal grain and smoke taste with a leathery finish.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2010 Draft pint at Bearden Beer Market. Clear brown with a lasting disc of foam. Nose is mild, but has hints of toasted nut, light char, cocoa, and caramel. Flavor is stronger with smoke, but more of the same as the aroma, with a touch of orange and dry wood on the finish. Near-medium body is smoothly carbonated, lightly tingly and watery, balanced and very sessionable.

Pours a clear dark iced coffee brown with golden highlights and a modest but persistent off-white head. Aromas of coffee, grains, brown sugar, and candied orange peel. Grainy sweet base with notes of chocolate, coffee, and orange; very slightly bitter herbal finish. Light body, creamy texture, soft to average carbonation. Pleasant, quaffable, and toasty.

From a bottle poured a brown color with a fair amount of head. Nice light sweet toasted malty flavor with a quick finish.

Draft. Brown, thin head that disappeared quickly. Aroma is malty but not too much there. Flavor is a little more malt, I donít get the chocolate or smoked malts the deScription boats of. Kind of plain but easy drinking and smooth. I could probably destroy some of these this fall when I just want to drink and not think about it.

Not a fan of this. Yeasty character underneath...malts donít have any vivid sensations of anything....I didnít take notes because frankly, there was nothing interesting to think about...but I did drink 5 12oz bottles which means this rating, which says pretty much nothing is worth a hell of fucking lot more than some douchebag european who says a lot of misspoken english nonsense off a 2oz sample. America, fuck yeah!

Bottle into pint glass. Pours a nice clear brown color with a slightly reddish hue. Nice tall, creamy, lacing off-white, almost light tan head. The aroma is a bit faint--woody, some slightly toasted malt, some nuttiness. The flavor is nutty with a bit of a bitter finish. Some resinous hops to dry out the finish. Very balanced and sessionable. Medium to light bodied with medium to low carbonation. Overall: not the most out going unique beer, but very solid and easy going. As advertised, it would be very nice on a autumn afternoon.
