COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sierra Nevada uses malt within days of roasting at the peak of its flavor to give Tumbler a gracefully smooth malt character. Two-row pale, crystal 40, chocolate and smoked malts give it a malty complexity. Challenger hops in the boil add balancing bitterness, while more Challengers and some Goldings give just enough hop flavor in the finish to balance all that malt.

Slightly out of season ... bottle into pint glass. Clear ruby brown color with light tan head. Aroma of strong sweet caramel malt, some roast, dark fruit (figs), some smoke and nuttiness. Taste is the aroma adding a light chocolate note and light hop bitterness. Medium body, low carbonation, creamy, complex with a dry finish. Very tasty brown ale, should have had this when it was fresh and plentiful last fall.

Solid brown. Malt backbone with traces of hops. Good fall ale. In 2014 SN Fall mix pack. Once was regular seasonal offering until the vastly inferior flipside red came out. Needs to come back as a mainstay. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cloudy dark brown color, minimal tan head. Nice caramel aroma, some roasted malt. Kind of watery. Medium body, soft carbonation. Not bad, but I have expected more from Sierra.

Transfer from BA review on 12-21-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance- The beer is poured a deep brown color with some mahogany highlights shining through. With the pour, there is a big cream colored head that has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to give a fantastic level of lacing. Smell- The aroma is heaviest of roasted malt, coffee, and some aroma of a herbal and earthy hop smell. Mixed with these smells are lighter notes of a chocolate and caramel smell. Taste –The flavor starts out with a nice blend of roasted malt and some sweeter caramel and toffee flavors. The roasted taste remains constant with some hop flavors coming to the tongue more toward the middle of the taste. A stronger chocolate and nut flavor as well as a light earthy hop flavor come to the tongue more toward the end of the taste and when mixed with the roasted flavors leave a nice crisp flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is a little above average for a brown beer. The creamier nature of the beer is rather nice for the roasted flavors but the carbonation level may have been a bit high. Overall –A tasty brew being rather crisp for a brown beer without being overly sweet, and yet still maintaining some nice roasty and cocoa flavor.

The body is dark brown with deep reddish amber highlights. Sitting on top is a tall thick and creamy beige head. The head has excellent retention and makes lots of sticky lace and lace rings on the glass. I am hit with a big sweet maltiness in the nose. Fresh bready and sweet roasted barley note dominate but there are some hop notes as well sneaking in there too. On the tongue there is a firm medium to full bodied malty sweetness with notes of brown sugar, caramel, roasted grain and fresh bread. On the back end there is a decent hop presence that balances out the big malt sweetness and adds a bit of earthy/leafy bitterness to the finish. The texture and carbonation are right on and keep things smooth but lively and very drinkable.

Pours a dark brown with off-white head. Lots of malt on the nose, caramel malt and some roast; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more malt. Not getting much for a hop profile on this one.
