355ml bottle from Utobeer. Dark brown colour with lasting beige head. Toasty malty aroma with dry and juicy malts on the nose. Wholemeal bread. With some 1930s jazz on the stereo, a weekend in front of me, this beer suited my mood. Understated, solid, easy going, hitting all the right notes. Just a chilled easy going, easy drinking malty brown ale. I do love Sierra Nevada as a brewery, love their beers and they still feel special to me. Good bready malty finish too with a touch of carbonation sting. lovely.

Tap at the Black Heart, Camden, 13/12/13.
Reddish amber with a thin off white covering/swirl that dissipates to edgework.
Nose is a little muted carrying fruit notes and caramel although picked up a little in depth as the beer warmed slightly.
Taste comprises Ribena Berry fruit, caramel malt, biscuit, hoppy back notes.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying closure with light fruit notes.
Ok stuff, easy drinking affair.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, at Ølbaren. A dark golden to amber beer, topped by a dense, off-white head leaving lacings. Slightly vegetal on the nose, with roasted malts and caramel dominating. Roasted, caramel flavor with some dried fruits. Medium to full body, quite dry. Nutty, caramel finish. Not much bad going on here, but as so many brown ales, it’s rather boring, lacking depth and failing to raise interest with me. 110527

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
A: The pour is a nice deep, rich brown color with a solid off-white head.
S: There is a weird aroma to this beer. Roasted, almost burnt, nuts, sulfur, butter, toasted malts, and a mild sweetness.
T: Immediately there is a noticeable astringency to this beer. Burnt and bitter nuts, slight sulfur, and a bit of toffee and caramel sweetness.
M: The body is slightly watery and thin, with a moderate level of carbonation.
D: A really disappointing effort from a brewery that is nearly bulletproof. And it’s even worse because it is replacing a solid offering.
