COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sierra Nevada uses malt within days of roasting at the peak of its flavor to give Tumbler a gracefully smooth malt character. Two-row pale, crystal 40, chocolate and smoked malts give it a malty complexity. Challenger hops in the boil add balancing bitterness, while more Challengers and some Goldings give just enough hop flavor in the finish to balance all that malt.

Thin white head, clear deep brown body, nutty brown sugar sweet malt nose, flavor is initially malty sweetness and then the bitter dry finish with some mild roast and big mouthfeel just finishes it right up. Is it just me, or has Sierra Nevada really stepped up their game in terms of new beers in the recent history?

Transfer from BA review on 12-21-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance- The beer is poured a deep brown color with some mahogany highlights shining through. With the pour, there is a big cream colored head that has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to give a fantastic level of lacing. Smell- The aroma is heaviest of roasted malt, coffee, and some aroma of a herbal and earthy hop smell. Mixed with these smells are lighter notes of a chocolate and caramel smell. Taste –The flavor starts out with a nice blend of roasted malt and some sweeter caramel and toffee flavors. The roasted taste remains constant with some hop flavors coming to the tongue more toward the middle of the taste. A stronger chocolate and nut flavor as well as a light earthy hop flavor come to the tongue more toward the end of the taste and when mixed with the roasted flavors leave a nice crisp flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is a little above average for a brown beer. The creamier nature of the beer is rather nice for the roasted flavors but the carbonation level may have been a bit high. Overall –A tasty brew being rather crisp for a brown beer without being overly sweet, and yet still maintaining some nice roasty and cocoa flavor.

The body is dark brown with deep reddish amber highlights. Sitting on top is a tall thick and creamy beige head. The head has excellent retention and makes lots of sticky lace and lace rings on the glass. I am hit with a big sweet maltiness in the nose. Fresh bready and sweet roasted barley note dominate but there are some hop notes as well sneaking in there too. On the tongue there is a firm medium to full bodied malty sweetness with notes of brown sugar, caramel, roasted grain and fresh bread. On the back end there is a decent hop presence that balances out the big malt sweetness and adds a bit of earthy/leafy bitterness to the finish. The texture and carbonation are right on and keep things smooth but lively and very drinkable.

Pours a dark brown with off-white head. Lots of malt on the nose, caramel malt and some roast; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more malt. Not getting much for a hop profile on this one.

Lawger (99) - SWEDEN - JUN 11, 2014
Pours a dark brown, almost black with half a finger of light beige head that dissipates quickly. Fresh and toffee-like aroma with some chocolate, roasted malts, hay, crisp bread and some flowers in the background. Rather light on the palate with butterscotchy and lightly roasted notes. A pretty classical, decent and easy drinking brown ale without much bitterness but a decent length.

Bottle, 0.355l. Hazy dark brown color with thin creamy tan-like head and nice lacing. Aroma of caramel and mild roasted malt, raisins, herbal hops and notes of chocolate. Taste starts moderate sweet roasted malty and nutty, follows by refreshing dark fruits and medium bitter finish. Medium to full body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Few tumblers and you quickly start tumbling around...
