Our take on the classic European amber lager. It has bright reddish highlights and a pronounced bready malt aroma reminiscent of its Austrian counterparts. The flavor plays slightly toward caramel and toasted lager malt but remains balanced and drinkable with a clean finish perfect for a summer session.

Sample at the brewpub. Clear gold/amber pour with a medium off-white head. Nose is sweet malt, later yeast, a bit of caramel and noble hops. Crisp later flavor with some caramelly sweetness. Dries out a bit in the finish.

Pailhead (6426) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - AUG 30, 2014
Bottle: The aroma is very light and consists of lightly toasted grains with a hint of caramel. It pours a transparent amber with a two finger beige head that has decent retention before fading to a very thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There is some sporadic webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with light-moderate caramel and light fruit. The finish has light toasted grain/cereal notes with some grassiness. It’s light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Pours clear golden copper with a large white head. The aroma has clean bready malt, light vanilla, light spicy/leafy hops and mild caramel. It has a medium / light rough body with some fairly sharp abrasive carbonation. The flavor starts really dry with crackers, dry caramel, fruitiness (apple / dried apricot sort of thing), spicy hops and herbal notes. The finish has far more of a hoppy presence than most of the style and remains bone dry. This is a beer you could study for subtleties or drink down quick and not thing much about. Enjoyable.

12 oz. bottle. It pours a very clear light amber color with a small off white head. The aroma has lots of light toast, nuts and subtle fruit notes. The flavor is pleasant with more of the same balanced bread, toast, earthy hops and light notes of dark berry fruit. More bread, toast and light earthy bitterness in the finish. Very drinkable, and a good representation of the style, albeit a little strong with the bitterness.
