Draft at FoBAB 9. Pours a slightly hazed Gold with reddish notes deep within. Fluffy white head. The nose is really fruity, strong booze notes and then an odd rose floral thing going on? Vanilla and bourbon come out and mix it up with the fruity notes. On tasting, lots of booze. Really fruity on the palate as well. Bitterness is appropriate overall. Pretty strange, though with all of the booze and rose notes. Meh.

on tap at toronado San Diego... Pours a golden, slightly cidery, pale brown and topped with a thin to wispy soapy white head that quickly reduces to a thin film... Aroma is assertive on bourbon and honey and a golden strong Belgian ale influence. Boozy and phenolic. Spicy assertiven heat... Flavors are extremely sweet with a bourbon poured into beer type of robustness. Honey and crystal malt throughout with a thinner side of medium mouthfeel. Big on booze. Ok

On tap at Bistro BA Fest poured a hazy gold with a lasting oiff white head. Aromas of bourbon, straw, fruittiness, light oak and light vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of bourbon, straw, fruittiness, oak and light vanilla with a smooth lingering bourbon finish.

On tap at the Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest. This was the one that spent 25 months in Pappy Van Winkle barrels. Pours a hazy amber with a small white head that disappears quickly and leaves some light lacing on the glass. The aroma is definitely barrel dominated. Big vanilla, some bourbon, oak, underneath is a bit of apricot, and some yeast as well as a bit of alcohol. The initial taste is sweet with some oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Then a bit of apricot and yeastiness come through. The finish is clean and crisp. Medium body. Low carbonation. This wasn’t bad, but I just felt like the bourbon barrel didn’t meld well with the tripel characteristics.

On tap at the Bistro -Bal Aged Fest. This was listed as being aged in Pappy Van Winkle barrels for 25 months (rather than Heaven Hill -bals), so maybe it should be a separate listing. Slightly hazy golden orange with a small white head. Great tropical fruit aroma with pineapple and coconut and some oak. The flavor is very nice too. The great base beer plays well with the barrel notes. Oak, pineapple, apricot, pineapple, honey, and coconut flavors. Nice on the palate, fairly light for the ABV with soft carbonation. Very solid.

FoBAB 2011. Sweet, a little hoppy but not overwhelming. Picked up some really nice bourbon flavors from the barrels. First beer I tasted at FoBAB so my notes on this one probably aren’t the best.
