COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

Had the privilege of having this amazing brew last night. Pours a cloudy Amber/yellow with a white cream head. You immediately get smells of malts, vanilla, subtle bourbon and good fruit notes. Taste is unbelievably smooth. Get a great flavor from the bourbon barrels. Good woody quality with rich vanilla. Mouth feel is very thick and lingering and the finish is as smooth as velvet. Nice sweet bourbon finish.

Deep reddish amber pour with a small off white head ... aroma is of whiskey, coconut, vanilla, woody and caramel malts and of faded hops .... Taste is of coconut, sweet caramel malts, wood, whiskey, vanilla with some faded piney bitter hops and some dark fruit .... has a dry woody finish with some faded bitter hops and rich caramel malts ... .excellent brew

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy brown with small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is candy sugar, oak, and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with rich malt and candy sugar with boozey finish. Very impressive.

Pours a hazy amber brown color with an off white head. Oak, malt, dark fruit, hop, pine, caramel and alcohol aroma. Oak, hop, malt, caramel, dark fruit, citrus, whiskey, pine and slight vanilla flavors. Full body and moderate carbonation. Slight bitterness and dark fruit sweetness with a sticky mouthfeel. Oak and malt finish.

750ml served in a snifter. Huge thanks to Hopswagger for snagging this one for me. A - Pours a slightly hazed amber/brown body with golden edges and a yellowing tan head. A steady collar holds strong the entire session. S - Opens up with big vanilla and whiskey barrel, lots of fermented fruit, woody dates, berries, apples, concentrated pine forest, sweet charred caramel malts, maple syrup, piney alcohol, T - Thick caramel malt, resinous pine and peppery hop bitterness, maple flavored cotton candy sweetness, There’s a tart slightly acidic fruit character, apple skins, dates, golden raisins, and berry fruit. Charred coconut, vanilla, oak wood, candied citrus oils only come out when warmed up. The hops don’t seem to grow in bitterness on the finish like the normal version. The finish is rounded, smooth, and woody. A soft bitterness emerges on the aftertaste. M - Silky soft feel, full body, carbonation is low and you barely notice it but it still has lifting power. I’ve been looking forward to this one as Bigfoot is one of my all-time favorite beers. The aroma and flavors are similar but very different. The whiskey barrels seems to bring mostly vanilla and fruit but not much whiskey flavor. The fruit esters were unexpected and added a nice touch. The mouthfeel was extraordinary. Not as complex as other barrel aged beers I’ve had but this is still awesome. Serving type: bottle 06-22-2013

About a year old now. Pours a slightly hazy, dark reddish brown and a fluffy khaki head. Lots of sticky, piney, resiny hops on the nose, cherries and plums, caramel, a hint of bourbon, oak, and toasted malt. Caramel and oak prominent on the taste, lots of cherry and light citrus notes, noticeable bourbon flavor, floral hops, burnt oak, and toffee. Delicious BBL barleywine, very smooth with a year on it now.

One year old bottle. Deep ruby/amber pour with a bubbly tan head. Aroma of oak, light vanilla, bourbon, toffee and caramel with spice and underlying dark fruits. Smooth body with similar flavors as the aroma with warming alcohol. Big body and low carbonation. Probably got better over time considering fresh ratings.

P: Dark copper brown body with a generous crown of creamy cappuccino silk. S: Huge whisky aroma, toasted coconut, vanilla extract, dark fruits and burnt sugar. T/M: The barrel aging mellows out the harsh earthy hops and creates a rich malted barley concoction. Burnt sugar, toasted coconut and vanilla encompass my mouth and create a creamy velvet mouthfeel. Booze is present but nicely incorporated given the high ABV. O: Nice tasty barley wine. I really prefer the original due to the lack of hops goodness but it was a special treat to have for sure.
