Sierra Nevada killed this on a great beer for every occasion. The beer was easy to drink and very light one the pallet for such a heavy beer, the coffee aroma and espresso apperance make this a very delightful beer.

On tap at O’Brien’s Pub 14th Anniversary Barrel-Aged beer night 1/15. A- Pours a dark brown/black hue, off-white head dissipates, minimal lacing S- Nose is a mix of oak, cherries, and alcohol, tones of dark fruits and bourbon, solid malts throughout T- Initial taste is quite subtle with a wood presence, cherries, chocolate and coffee malts ride the background, finishes bitter and clean M- Medium-texture, chewy thick texture, mild carbonation D- Well-balanced beer, the wood intermingles well with the malts and dark fruits, no one component takes over, easy drinking

draft @ Blind Tiger Sierra Nevada Tasting. Pours a very black with nice long lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, wood, vanilla. Didnt gather too much whiskey. Taste was full of flavor-wood, vanill, chocolate, roastiness. Only thing lacking was more body otherwise a fine stout

Pours pitch black with a thick tan head. Hmmm. Flavor is odd. Too much wood and more than a fair portion of vanilla. Seems a bit out of balance here. Something just isn’t meshing. Feel is fine, but it doesn’t matter. We’re out of wack on this one IMO. Not really working for me.

Draft at Spuyten Duyvil. Black pour with some light tan head. Aroma is wet wood. Flavor is standard stout cola and roasted malt, along with some vanilla and wood. The wood flavor in this beer is decent and not too overpowering, and it mostly makes up for the lack of other flavor.

Draft at Spuyten. Flavor is thin chocolate milk. Some roastiness but not much else. Some vanilla comes from the wood flavor.

On draft at O’Brien’s Pub during their anniversary week barrel aged night, shared with Goldtwins, DarkElf, Wetherl, and others. I didn’t see any head on the beer, which had been siting on the table for a while when i walked in ight from work. the black beer had a roasty choclate aroma. I tasted choclate with some cofee and bits of barrel. a nice smotth beer, but didn’t blow me away.

Tried on tap at OBriens: 1/15/07. Creamy thick lasting microbubble head. Great appearance. Flavor is mild and mellowed from aging. Some chocolate. Medium body. Somewhat dry flavor. No off flavors.
