CaptainCougar (4687), Rockville, Maryland, USA Dec 22, 2007 Sampled at the second annual Bistro’s West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Fest: Pours a nearly opaque dark mahogany with a well-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of woody vanilla and toasty dark caramel and chocolate maltiness. Body starts fairly rich and earthy dark chocolatey with good woody complexity and balance toward a drier oaky finish. A nice, barrel-aged stout. goldtwins (3747), Nesconset, New York, USA Oct 28, 2007 GABF 2007: Poured black with no head. The aroma was light with a mild roast and light wood. Hints of vanilla and chocolate. The flavor had some woody and roasty components. Bitter dry finish that wasn’t balanced and almost harsh. Eyedrinkale (3115), Beer Town, New York, USA Apr 21, 2008 Draft at Spuyten. Flavor is thin chocolate milk. Some roastiness but not much else. Some vanilla comes from the wood flavor. ratman197 (2478), Arvada, Colorado, USA Nov 12, 2007 On tap @ The Bistro poured a clear dark brown ish black with a small lingering tran head. Aromas of roastiness, dark chocolate and hints of bourbon and oak. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, light vanilla, light oak and a faint hint of bourbon with a smooth lingering finish.
