bottle shared at Max & Jess’s tasting - cloudy, light colored pour. Light caramel malts, spruce and pine. Light nutty notes and hoppy bitterness and some earth.

750 mL bottle with lots of sediment in the bottom. Pours a hazed golden amber with some larger particles and a white head. Aroma has a dry bretty funk with some berry, perhaps some honey and light oxidized hops. Flavor has the brett note leading into a touch of caramel and... tomato sauce? That’s definitely what I’m getting. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s just weird to make the connection. Eventually the tomato sauce flavor mostly transforms to an herbal honey mix, toasty biscuit, but I’m still kind of perplexed about where the tomato came from for so long.

12 oz bottle. Pours murky orange with soapy/creamy off-white head. Aroma of strong malt, farmhouse, deep fruit. Flavor is much the same with a nice sweetness with a spicy kick wanting to break through with some burnt caramel notes and nice finish. Mouthfeel is heavy body with fizzy carbonation. Overall, damn good brew!

Pours a somewhat coppered-amber with a modest off-white, quickly vanishing head. Nose is weak with a bit of generic sweetness and a little bit of herbs and hops. Flavor has a little back to it, with apples and sweet bread coming out of the malt and light-but-noticable hops to balance. Alcohol is hidden, as is any yeastiness. It’s a decent ale but nothing about this is very impressive either.

I am not certain which batch this belonged to but I have been sitting on for a year and who knows how long it was at the store (probably at least another one). I wish I would have passed because while it was acceptable the price tag was a bit much ($4.99). I don’t mind paying for good beer but it has to be worth the expense. Perhaps though I just got a bad bottle.

Aroma / Appearance - Gushing upon being opened immediately was the first strike. The pillowy head took ages to settle such that I almost forgot about it on the counter. The ruby body redeemed itself though by being the center of attention. Caramel, molasses, and Wurther’s chews make me feel like I am sniffing a bottle of the syrup you add to an Italian soda.

Flavor / Palate - The chewy filling is like the inside of a Twix bar. Next comes a yeasty bite like a huge mouthful of sourdough bread. Put together it tastes like a melted scoop of chocolate ice cream on top of a caramel brownie. Decent but somehow underperforming this beer was not worth the price tag. Here’s to hoping that new batches have more balance and body.
